Thompson's book is meant to be a one-stop reference for those badges and medals that you might think you were awarded. Also, if you are one of those Marines who want to stay current on awards and know the criteria and history of awards, this is the tool for you. From the World War II Honorable Discharge Pin, known by many as the 'Ruptured Duck,' to the newly authorized Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Korea Defense Service Medal, Thompson's book provides all you want to know. The introduction states Thompson originally developed this book because there were no single source for the history of Marine Corps decorations, wards, ribbons, rank, insignia and badges that also included details on the proper wearing. He delivered on his mission and now has given us an updated version to keep us current.
