VOYA
The popular Complete Idiot's Guide series branches out into teen issues with these two books. Dating for Teens intends to give teens the information they need about relationships and love so they can have a better dating experience. The author compares the game of dating to sports and uses sports analogies throughout the book. She teaches such lessons as "The Playing Field," describing how dating today is both similar and different to practices of the past. "The Dating Game" details how to ask for a date, what types of activities happen on dates, and how to break up. "Training for the Dating Game:Your Behavior Is You" examines one's identity, values, and dealing with emotions. "Advanced Plays:Love and Sex" defines the difference between love and sex and when teens might be ready for either one. Although the information in the book is valid, it is written in such a way that it actually will turn teens off. The book opens with a scenario about sixteen-year-old Ben, who wants to "plunge into the dating game" but worries that he might need "special qualifications to date." Teens will not relate to Ben because his dilemma is written too clinically, making him seem like a subject in a psychology textbook about teenagers not for them. Although Rabens attempts to lighten the tone of the book with the sports theme, it gets tiresome quickly. Friendship for Teens is written in a more conversational tone and is therefore more accessible to teens. There are quotes by teenagers about friendship scattered throughout the book that help keep the focus on teens. If teens truly need help dating or making friends, they will not seek out books such as these. A group of teens might see either on theshelf in the library and laugh together at it, but the lone teen who needs the help will not take the book home. Parents might be interested in these titles to compare their experiences with those of teenagers today, but teens will not be interested. A better alternative is.... Any Advice by Tucker Shaw and Fiona Gibb (Penguin Putnam, 2000/VOYA December 2000), which uses real letters by real teens to address the issues of friendship and dating. Sounds cheesy. We as teens would not go out and buy a book on dating. Thats what being a teen is all about. Mystery and excitemet.

Hunter?

Ouch. That hurts. Well my best advice for you is to talk it out. Somethings going on there and it doesnt look like he dumped you cuz he was done. So id say just talk to him. Or talk to a friend of his first, and maybe then talk to him. Thats just weird. But one word of caution: Whatever you do dont make/let him cheat on the other girl. That'd be rude. Good lucj! 3rdkid

From the way you discribe it seems that she is intrested in you but is shy to say so. Try asking her out, and on the date ask her about her actions...

I've like this girl at school for 3 years. I've never had the courage to ask her out. I'm afraid of being heavily teased by my whole grade and by th girl I like. What should I do? Also I'm in 7th grade.

There is this girl i like but i cheated on her with her best friend. We became friends again awhile back and i told her that i still like her. She said that it was to soon to try agian on our relation ship. That all was about tree months ago. Now i want to tell her how i really feel about her but i am to shy to talk to her about it and i know that i will mean more if i talk to her instead of writing a note. There is also another problem there is this other guy that i think is dating her. What should i do?

I am a boy and don't know what to do. There are some girls that like me but i dont know how i should handle this. I dont want to be mean or anything. Another question, there is this girl that REALLY likes me but my best friend likes her. He would kill me if i asked her out. What shoul i do?
