I first read this book last October, and, though impressed, quickly threw its guidelines out the window as I embarked on a severly calorie restricted diet of my own creation. 45 pounds and 7 months later, I began to run into serious problems as my eating turned into a full-blown binge eating disorder. That's when I rediscovered this book and relearned how to eat. Written in an upbeat manner, this book helped me win back control over my diet and my body. I eat whenever I'm hungry and stop when I'm pleasantly satisfied. Though I still maintain the traditional 3 meals a day, if I'm hungry inbetween, I don't hesitate to have a healthy little snack. Before I would eat like a bird and have hunger pains all morning and afternoon, then stuff myself at night. The beautiful thing about this method is that your body naturally regulates your eating. If you eat a little more in the morning, you eat a little less in the afternoon because you're not hungry. For example, today I had a relatively large snack around 10:30 a.m., followed by a filling lunch at 12:15 p.m. As a result, I wasn't hungry until about 5:30 p.m. and skipped my normal afternoon snack. This method brings me more and more in tune with my body every day. I celebrate food. I rejoice in my body's innate wisdom. This book is a must for ANYONE who's ever struggled with their weight or eating habits.

Easy to read, but more important, an eating and weight loss guide that's not preachy. I have begun to lose weight using four or five of the key principles in the book, and I will use them forever! Definitely NOT a fad diet book.

I found this book very easy to read - and a very helpful guide to what food does in our body - how it impacts our metabolism - much more than a diet book. This is a great reference for the entire family to learn healthy eating guidelines as well as behavior and exercise tips. I love the hunger scale - our entire family is now eating to a 5 -- even making a game out of it! It is practical to use with children and their weight issues as well. Sources are given for various online sites to explore as well as unusual exercise resources - videos, shoes, etc. Stress relievers are explained and how stress can affect the metabolism. It is a very thorough book. Highly recommended.

At long last -- a weight loss book that makes sense. It's not another boring diet book. Instead it's a fun and enlivening guide filled with common sense, and practical and doable advice. I love learning how to listen to my body's hunger and using visualizations and affirmations. Plus the guide to eating out is fantastic. Definitely get this book to get thin.
