What People are saying about this

Anna Quindlen
For those of us who suspect all the mysteries of life are contained in the microcosm of the family, that personal relationships prefigure all else, the work of Jane Austen is the Rosetta stone of literature
Eudora Welty
How could these novels ever seem remote?... The Gaiety is unextinguished today, the irony has kept its bite, the reasoning is still sweet, the sparkle undiminished... As comedies they are irresistible and as nearly flawless as any fiction could be.

Meet the Author

The Modern Library has played a significant role in American cultural life for the better part of a century. The series was founded in 1917 by the publishers Boni and Liveright and eight years later acquired by Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer. It provided the foundation for their next publishing venture, Random House. The Modern Library has been a staple of the American book trade, providing readers with affordable hardbound editions of important works of literature and thought. For the Modern Library's seventy-fifth anniversary, Random House redesigned the series, restoring as its emblem the running torch-bearer created by Lucian Bernhard in 1925 and refurbishing jackets, bindings, and type, as well as inaugurating a new program of selecting titles. The Modern Library continues to provide the world's best books, at the best prices.

This edition has good sized text, so reading isn't a problem. Since it's been out so long, you can also strike a bargain on the used copies. Not much of an eye catcher, but hey. It's a great deal and you can read it!

From one of the most famous authors of any era comes 3 of her best novels in this extraordinary book. Jane Austen masterly captured readers attention worldwide through Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Mansfield Park. The former being the heartfelt story of the sensible Elinor Dashwood and the hopelessly romantic younger sister Marianne. The second, and most famous, is of the proud and arrogant Darcy and the prejudice yet playful Elizabeth Bennet. The latter of the three is of the senseous yet poor Fanny Price and her wealthy yet generous cousin Edmund Bertram. These three classic stories captured the hearts of many in this collection of her finest works.
