(Despite the branding of the books, the content is not machine-specific.) Both begin with the tools of the trade, followed by techniques proceeding from basic to advanced. The primary difference is that New Sewing Essentials contains only reference information, and Complete Photo Guide features projects. Both are excellent references; economically minded selectors may prefer The Complete Photo Guide, because it serves as a reference and a project book, while libraries looking to add a sewing book to their reference collection might prefer the straightforward New Sewing Essentials.

    GREAT BOOK!

    I just started sewing less than a year ago and bought this book to help me learn some of the more technical things that will help my projects look more complete/finished/professional. The book is very easy to read/understand and there are a TON of illustrations that help as well. This book is very well put together and I would recommend it to anyone who sews!

    Excellent boot

    I checked this book out of the library first. I love it. The pics are awesome and really help to clarify techniques. Nice section on home decor that I've not seen in other books. I intend to buy this book now. It's well worth having in my library.
