Rosetta Howard, a potential "classic blues" singer, was probably born ten years too late, being far too young to be active in the 1920s when she might have made a bigger impact. Howard did record with the Harlem Hamfats in the late '30s and her five sessions as a leader are included on this CD from the Austrian RST label. Howard, who had an appealing if not overly memorable voice, is backed by jazz stars during two dates from 1939 including either Charlie Shavers or Red Allen on trumpet and Barney Bigard or Buster Bailey on clarinet.
