Features: This is an excellent resource for pharmacy technicians seeking to understand and attain an expanded role in a field that now, more than ever, must rely on their skills to provide excellent pharmaceutical care. There are detailed chapters covering baseline knowledge as well as expanded chapters on pharmacy laws and regulations. The book does an excellent job of providing updates on the pharmacy technician's role in pharmacy operations and management, including in the areas of health information technology, information systems, and compounding standards from the United States Pharmacopeia. A great chapter on pharmacy calculations will help both new and seasoned pharmacy technicians to become comfortable with commonly encountered pharmacy calculations. In addition, this edition contains a wide range of excellent illustrations and figures to help make the material more accessible and easy to follow. Finally, for those who are interested in taking the PTCE, a well organized appendix refers readers to sections in the book that correspond to the knowledge areas covered in the exam.
Assessment: This updated review is an invaluable resource for those who currently practice and for those who wish to pursue a career as a pharmacy technician. With the role of the pharmacy technician expanding, there is a need for a resource that will provide technicians with knowledge about medications, technology, law, and quality standards.
