Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Mark R Hutchinson, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This book is unique in the shoulder and orthopedic literature in that it avoids discussing basic and routine issues, but rather focuses on complex and revision problems in shoulder surgery. It leaves teaching basic techniques to other texts and journals and concisely addresses our worst nightmares.
Purpose: The mission of this book is to present practical approaches outside the realm of standard treatments for difficult problems of the shoulder. In doing so, the authors have created a text unique in shoulder literature
Audience: The authors have targeted this book to orthopedic residents and shoulder fellows. However, in the foreword, Charles Rockwood notes that this is a valuable reference for all orthopedic surgeons who practice shoulder surgery.
Features: To address the complex issues that this text is designed to discuss, the authors must have the support of excellent artwork and photographs. The quality is excellent and significantly enhances the reader's ability to apply the material. The references are amazingly current for a text and of great value.
Assessment: This book is a "must read" for any and all orthopedic surgeons who practice shoulder surgery. By being aware of the potential complications and complex cases, routine cases become simpler, safer, and more successful. I commend the contributors and editors on giving us a unique and valuable addition to the literature. All shoulder surgeons should read this book, and all orthopedic libraries should have it on their shelves.
