All You Need to Pass Both 2009 A+ Exams!

This book is really all that you need to pass the 2009 version of the CompTIA's A+ exams. I used this book along with the practice questions that it comes with. I also used more practice questions and some videos. I'm confident that if I only had this book I would still more than pass- I passed both exams with what would calculate out to an A on each exam.

The first one you only need a 675 out of 900 to pass and I scored an 825, and I got 857 on the 220-702 exam (700 needed). All I did was read through it quickly and take the end of chapter review questions- usually there are 2-3 sets of questions per chapter, and they are really great to help you reinforce and remember things, and read the notes / explanations provided with the answers.

Like the other readers have said, it covers only all that you need to pass very well- as the A+ is such a vast subject covering so many little things. Some of my recommendations are:

Read the book well, 1-2 times and underline and take some notes- I rushed and had to go back and underline and review things.

Make a recording of notes, questions and answers on tuff things that you'd like to remember and listen to it later in the car over and over again, as you have that set of info memorized, make another recording on other items to remember, about 30 mins or less for each recording is good- sometimes you can even record a whole chapter that is not sticking and listen to it. This stuff worked for me, like with numbers, speeds, commands etc.

Do a bunch of practice tests- the 200 included might be enough, but I recommend more.

Dave the author is very knowledgeable and was quick to answer questions- you can sign up and ask questions on his free forum, he also has many things answered on there already and has some videos.

I would fix the slight typo / mistakes from that site (the errata) before reading it. If you learn well by doing, I would build the computer that he did- it's all in the book, the parts and everything- The parts used are listed on his free site though.

The last thing I recommend is if you are having trouble remembering a networking command or how to get to a certain place etc on XP or Vista- just do it yourself on your own machine a couple of times and then you should remember, that's what I had to do. I used virtualbox- a free VM type software to install XP Pro on my windows 7 laptop.

If you want to just get past these tests and learn a ton also- get this book and go on to bigger and better certs afterwards.

Thanks to the creator, and David the author I'm 2009 certified.

This A+ book gets an A+ from me!

    Avoid this book

Claims to have "study" and "practice" exams on enclosed CD. Both test method don't include all of the questions in the book. Basically you are tested on just a few question and can't reload new question to create another mock exam. The exam engine is faulty, if you are asked to "pick two answer" or "select all that apply", you can only select one answer. So when the test is graded you can't get an accurate score. Leave this book on the shelf especially if you want a "CD features 1000 + test question" because it doesn't have them and the software doesn't work.

    Not Bad at all

The 220-701 i did pass on my own with a score of 717 so i planned to do better for the 220-702 and i purchased the exam cram through-out this book
after 2 weeks of practice i passed with a high score.
i does have a few mistakes in the book but if your on top of your game.
you will catch the few errors.

    Disappointing

I have always been a fan of Exam Cram. It has been a few years since I've needed to prepare for a certification exam. I was very disappointed in the overall quality of this book. Exam Cram used to be my go to source for exam prep. Not anymore, it was poorly eddited and in several cases the answers given were just wrong. It also seems to have been poorly translated into English from another language. It was difficult to read at best.
