Good resource, could have used another editorial review

This study guide covers a great deal, more so than is likely to be on the actual exams, and the content covered in the book itself is current and mostly correct. However, there a quite a few duplicate questions and some incredibly poorly worded questions that might make for a frustrating experience. While these errors are distracting, they don't detract terribly from the quality of information contained.

Having passed the previous version of the A+ exam, it's nice to see a significant update to the coverage of new hardware types (DDR3, for example) and expansion of Windows Vista and 7. Of course, since this is a supposed to be an all encompassing exam, it would be nice to see some minimal coverage of Linux related troubleshooting. Granted, CompTIA does have the Linux+ exam but it's not as though PCs ONLY run Windows. On that note, some questions did seem like they were advertisements for Microsoft and have little bearing on verifying your understanding of hardware and OS tools.

Overall, I would rate this study guide as a FAIR to GOOD resource if you've been studying or have prior experience in the field. Obviously, since it's a study guide there's no room for page after page of specific explanations, but the answers to each question are quite detailed. Again, it's not going to hurt to pick this study guide up and use it to self-test, but bear in mind that a great deal of the questions/material are unlikely to appear on the exam.

As for the CD, having used a previous version of the self-test, this test on the CD was riddled with errors in coding correct answers. Use the book, not the test on the CD.

    Fantastic study aid.

I read a couple of A+ books and used a couple of others for cross-referencing as I studied; also watched Professor Messer's great videos. Finally, after taking end-of-chapter quizes and the tests on accompaning CDs I decided I needed more practice. This ExamCram book of practice questions was perfect. The questions were more difficult than anything I'd seen before. As a result, I punched up my studying and learned a lot simply by going through all the questions and explanations. This week I passed both my A+ exams!
