Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: LouAnn Schraffenberger, MBA, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P(Advocate Health Care)
Description: This is an interactive competency-based approach to learning computer applications for the medical office.
Purpose: The purpose is to teach students/readers how to use medical office software. There is an accompanying Instructor's Guide. The book refers to "Patriot Medical" as the sample software.
Audience: The audience is primarily medical office or medical assisting students. It would also be useful for practicing medical office personnel who are not familiar with office software.
Features: The book includes software for use on an IBM-compatible personal computer or local area network. It explains medical office procedures, medical insurance processing, and teaches computer skills. It provides more than 100 illustrations of computer screens to describe how the software "looks and works."
Assessment: This appears to be a very comprehensive, interactive text. It claims to comply with DACUM analysis for medical assisting professional programs and meets AAMA requirements for competency based curriculum. It appears to be useable in a classroom as well as for individual study. I did not receive the instructor's guide to review, but expect it would be a welcomed reference by all instructors.
