Computer Peripherals

by D. J. Herda

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 6-8 Herda describes most of the common computer peripherals including keyboards, monitors, printers, disk drives, modems, plotters, light pens and tablets. He contrasts and compares the various peripherals in each category and explains what to look for in general. For instance, his examination of video display monitors examines resolution, color vs. black and white, screen color, screen size and detached vs. integrated monitors. The emphasis is on what the peripherals do rather than on how they work, making this a good source for prospective computer owners to read before purchasing a computer. The black-and-white photographs are primarily advertising photos, and, in fact, since hardware changes so quickly, readers will need to augment this volume with current catalogs from computer companies.
