Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Michael J. Bamdad, MA, CCC-SLP(George Washington University)
Description: This product reviews the Praxis Examination for the graduate student. It provides practice for the examination as well as test taking skills.
Purpose: The purpose of the CD-ROM format is so that students can practice taking the examination in an interactive format. The test can be taken in sections or as a whole and can also be timed. I feel this product meets the objectives of providing a useful tool to assist in the preparation of taking the Praxis Examination, and that it is indeed a needed product.
Audience: According to both the author and in my judgment, this product is intended for graduate clinicians in speech-language pathology preparing for the Praxis Examination. I feel the authors have met the needs of the intended audience and are credible authorities.
Features: This product consists of a comprehensive practice module for the Praxis Examination. Students can take portions of or the entire examination. A score is calculated for the student and there is also the option to have the test timed. The product is easy to use and has helpful tutorials.
Assessment: It is my opinion that this product is of value to graduate students preparing to take the Praxis Examination. The product is well organized and clearly states its purpose. I am unaware of a similar product being available. I have and will continue to recommend this to my students.

Program may be great, but very slow

I've used this program on two computers, one running Windows XP and one with Windows 2000. Both computers are relatively fast and can run memory-intensive programs without problems. However, this program (all 1.5 megs of it on an otherwise blank CD-ROM) hesitates when I input my answer. The input field just blinks as if I had not entered anything. Furthermore, after it does register my answer, I press 'enter' to submit the answer and it pauses again. The process from entering the response to submitting it takes between 30 and 45 seconds (it should only take the amount of time it takes to enter two keystrokes). I would buy this program again only if I knew that the speed of the program had been *drastically* improved.
