I loved this book when I took a (Junior level) course on computer engineering. There's a lot of information about computers here, on several levels -- from designing ALUs and control units from logic gates, to how the assembler works, and the relationship between the instruction set and the hardware that implements it. His example processor design (in terms of presentation) is one the best I've seen...very informative and complete, but readable and not overwhelming. If you want a book on digital design proper, try Mano's _Digital Design_. If you want a medium-duty text on what's really going on in a computer, how to design a CPU, and a wealth of other computer architecture info, get this book! For something more hardcore, try Hennessy and Patterson's _Computer Organization and Design_.
one of the worst books about digital design, subjects are not covered completley, examples are not complete and not related to the chapter problems.
