"There was an illness much worse than anything I had ever seen, and that was the sickness of my country."

Fourteen year old Adenine is blind and isolated in her small attic bedroom. Convinced she is the last carrier of the Death Plague -- that wiped out thousands of her country's people twenty-five years ago -- Adenine avoids contact with the outside world.

When her mother fails to bring her food Adenine begins to starve. Driven by her hunger, Adenine ventures into the house discovering her mother bedridden and sick. Despite her terror of infecting others, Adenine fumbles her way onto the streets of Borrelia in search of the town's doctor.

Soon, she is surrounded by new friends... and enemies she never knew existed. Adenine's mother is keeping dark secrets, her friends are lying to her and when threats arise she must decide who to trust.

I hesitantly, purchased this book knowing that it would be a series, but Im happy that I did. The book was very well written, not choppy and misspelled like a lot of Indie books. The story line and characters was what did it for me. Also, must say that the premise is completely novel. Its not the same old recycled story line. I'm currently about to happily purchase book two with money I dont really have. Lol. The life a book lover.....Highly recommend this read!!!

4 Stars. Recommended.I have tried more than 15 times to submit this review. Each time the highlighted stars are erased and a notice in red asks for a star rating of between one and five. Unfortunately, B&N give me no control over what number of stars are entered. Could be Young Adult but note that there is threat of rape and attempted rape of 13year old and others as a theme of book. No rape occurs in this book. The characters and situations are well presented.  I am an adult and may read more. Although the book seems somewhat simple it does present complicated situations.

Book 1 of the series. Starts a little slow, however, I feel it was necessary to get the characters and plot lines just right. Characters are well developed and stay true throughout. The plot will draw you in and keep you wondering what could possibly happen to Adenine and her friends and family next. Settings are described in such a way that allows you to be there - smells, colors, and sounds; all there for the taking! I recommend that you grab the series or the box set, as you will be looking for the next piece of the story as soon as you finish!

Plot line was predictable from the start. Got this as part of the "Epic Fantasy Box Set"

I almost gave up on this book at the beginning. If rape scenes are a trigger for you I would not suggest this. It reminds me of La Blue Girl. The only difference being that the main characters in this book use their powers for good. If you get that reference then this is probably a good series for you. Without giving the plot away there isn't much morethat can be said.
