Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Sunny D. Mitchell, BS (Rush University Medical Center)
Description: This book is derived from Kaplan & Sadock's Synopsis of Psychiatry, 7th Edition.
Purpose: This textbook was developed to provide coverage of the behavioral sciences and all the clinical psychiatry disorders.
Audience: It is aimed at medical students, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, psychiatric nurses, occupational and recreational therapists, and those in other mental health professions.
Features: This text is consistent with the nosology of the fourth edition of DSM-IV, reflecting revision in almost every section of this book. Entirely new chapters have been added: Delirium, Dementia, and Amnesiac and Other Cognitive Disorders; Mental Disorders Due to a General Medical Condition; Relational Problems; and Problems Related to Abuse or Neglect. References are current, thus inclusive of recently introduced research, providing a concise coverage of newly approved as well as standard pharmacological agents.
Assessment: Kaplan and Sadock meet the objectives of providing a smaller concise version of their larger work. This text is presented in a well-organized, concise manner, making it a fine addition to the physician/clinician's armamentarium.
