Overview

A BDSM LGBT Futuristic Fantasy

Scholar, captain...war prize. Prince Kael of Korai is stunned when his father gives him to an enemy warlord in a desperate attempt to salvage Korai's reputation. With his country's honor at stake, Kael resolves to submit to Warlord Taren's every debauched whim.

But life in Zandria isn't anything like what Kael imagined. Instead of pain and cruelty, Warlord Taren seduces Kael until the bewildered prince craves his Master's every intimate caress. As he sinks into the decadent, sensual life of a concubine, Kael makes a powerful enemy, one who wants him removed from Zandria by any means necessary. Betrayed by his body, trapped by his honor, Kael must learn to trust his Master or get them both killed.

Generally not a reader of fantasy, but this book was well written with a good story. A great read, hard to put down.

The plot of this deftly written male/male (lots of sex, lightly BDSM) novella is straightforward: as reparation for defeat, Prince Kael is obligated to become the concubine of the half-Demon Taren, royal warlord of a rival state. Although Kael’s society does not condone male-male coupling, he’s determined to pay his country’s debt with honor and thus he finds himself reluctantly, gradually, indoctrinated into the pleasures of the half-demon’s bed. Taren makes a pet of Kael, binding him, dressing him, showing him off, tutoring Kael in the (many!) delights of civilization as well as submission, and of course, falling in love with the beautiful young man he’s claimed as his own. In “Concubine” Jill Knowles has written a charming love story, full of rich but lightly painted in world-building, believable characters and—best of all—absolutely no whining or angst. Kael clings to honor, adapting to his new life in small, quick baby steps that drew me in and kept me cheering for both men (especially once he started claiming Taren back), and Taren embodies a perfect balance of gentle, considerate, and masterly qualities that make what could have been a “rape him until he likes it” story into a steamy, sympathetic tale of seduction and love. Weave in a backdrop of magic, court politics, and intrigue and the result is a quick read that engaged me at all levels. I’d like to see more novellas set in this universe.

A very nice book. It was delightfully erotic, but it was also long and well-written (both things sometimes lacking in this genre). It is worth the money!!!!
