Children's Literature - Jennifer Mitchell
Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State, has enjoyed a successful career in education and politics over the years. Her success came from her hard work and interesting background. Condoleezza grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, during the struggle for desegregation. Her family frequently faced discrimination. Her father, a minister, spoke against segregation at a time when discussions of this nature frequently became violent. Condoleezza's parents worked hard to keep her safe. In her teens, her family moved to Denver, Colorado. This was where she attended her first non-segregated school. In college she studied political science. She also has a doctorate in international studies. She has worked as a university professor, a member of the National Security Council, and is the 66th United States Secretary of State. This book contains some of Condoleezza's personal ideas about certain topics and information about other Secretaries of State. It also includes facts about Alabama, what a Secretary of State does, and how to write a biography. This is an educational read that is a must have for any library. Reviewer: Jennifer Mitchell
