Carey Baldwin was a new author to me when I picked up this book, but I have to say: she's on the keeper shelf and I'll be looking for more from her. I won't give anything away, but this is an extremely well-written story that flies. I loved the romantic undertones and creepy vibes throughout. If you love fast-paced, thoughtful, surprising thrillers, this one's definitely for you.

Was totally not expecting that! Wow! I am probably going to have a difficult time writing this review because I absolutely don’t want to
give anything away. I hope that doesn’t sound to weird but I want you to suck in your breath when I did and think “oh no he didn’t” at
the same part I did, hope that makes some semblance of sense right now, but definitely after you read Confession you will get why
    I didn’t want to over-share.

However, there are a few things I can tell you without messing up the surprise to much! I found that Confession held my interest
throughout pretty much the entire story, except for two or three minor parts that seemed a bit redundant to me. It is hard to write a
story about a serial killer because there are lots out there and it is hard not to sound cliche, but I found this particular story to be well
thought out and basically psychologically terrifying for pretty much the whole book.

If you want a good scare you need look no further than Confession.

Dr Faith Clancy just wants to set up her new psychiatry practice. She never imagined she'd become involved in the Santa Fe Saint serial killer case.

A delightfully winding mystery narrative that is at times contains creepiness, passion, romance, and drama fill this story's pages for a multi-leveled tale yet not overly complex. Relatively fast paced action sequences add flair and emotion to the characters and plot.

Characters are authentic, varied, compassionate, intelligent, and flawed.

    Overall, an exciting read.

O to the M to the G I don't even know where to begin with fantastic creepy-lishes thriller.

This is the 3rd Book I have read by Carey Baldwin, and I have to say, she doesn’t disappoint. Confession is a psychological thriller mixed with romantic suspense that will leave you breathlessly hanging on to the edge of your seat.

The moment I read the Prolog, I was creep out, Ms. Carey showed readers the inside working of a mad man’s mind. She had me hooked, because by this point I needed to know where she was going to take us.

This intense book had the right amount of suspense, mystery and intrigue to keep you turning the pages, and just the perfect amount of romantic, passion, that it doesn’t take away for the thrilling storyline.

I am normally pretty good and figuring about whodunit, but in this case, I have a confession to make, Carey Baldwin threw me for a loop. There was such a wicked and evil twist to this story that I never saw it coming.

    * Clapping hands* well done

Confession is a graphic and spine-chilling psychological thrille

Confession is a graphic and spine-chilling psychological thriller with a subtle romantic suspense twist that will keep the reader sitting on the edge of their seats.

Author Carey Baldwin utilizes her professional background to weave a complex, intense, and gripping psychological tale that easily holds the reader's attention with its multi-layered, compelling, richly detailed descriptions, and surprising twists and turns that takes the reader on one hell of a thrilling roller coaster ride.

Faith Clancy has moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico for a fresh start. She has just opened a psychiatrist office and only has one new patient. Faith thinks she knows the diagnosis of her patient, but when he confesses to be the serial killer, the Santa Fe Saint, she realizes the diagnosis may have been wrong and turns him in. Even though she was bound by law to turn her patient in, she can't help but feel that he wrongfully confessed, and she tries to give him the help he needs ... but is he who he really says he is ... and has he really committed all those brutal serial killings?

Luke Jericho is the patient’s half brother. He is a rich man who has a strong sense of family and will do anything to help prove his brother is innocent and get him out of jail. He is also used to getting what he wants, and he has wanted Faith since he first met her. After his brother is arrested, Luke and Faith work together to prove that his brother is not the Santa Fe Saint.

Confession has the right amount of suspense, mystery and intrigue that keeps the reader turning the pages, while interweaving the perfect amount of a subtle passionate romance that doesn’t take away from the thrilling storyline. The author sends the reader on a riveting journey as an amateur sleuth following Faith and Luke as they work to unravel the mystery of the Santa Fe Saint's true identity. This is one exhausting whodunit that throws the reader for a loop as they try to figure everything out with a wicked evil twist at the end that the reader will never coming.

Confession is a fast-paced psychological thriller that is a guaranteed must read!

Carey Baldwin¿your genius is showing! Family physician by day,

Carey Baldwin…your genius is showing! Family physician by day, it’s no easy feat to excel, equally, in two different professions. Ms. Baldwin does it with panache, and thankfully doesn’t show signs of slowing down. The doctor can tell a story, can impress you with her intellect, can scare the cr#p out of you…can make you swoon. Confession encompasses them all! Dr. Faith Clancy is trying to establish a reputation for herself, as well as a life, with the loss of her parents and sister, who incidentally was the wife of widower, Detective Danny Benson from Ms. Baldwin’s First Do No Evil (read review here). Confession was fantastic! Hardly a surprise, as I have come to expect no less from Carey Baldwin. Now let’s find out who exactly is spilling the beans!
When Dante Jericho, Faith’s sole patient admits to being the Santa Fe Saint, a serial killer tormenting New Mexico, Faith calls the authorities, as dictated by law, to have him arrested.
The moment Dante said he would kill again, whether she believed him or not, she was morally and legally bound to report him to the police. The statutes were clear on this matter. If a patient presented a danger to others, doctor-patient confidentiality no longer applied. She had a duty to warn.
And yet her expertise kicked in; trained to remain professional in the face of danger, and figure out a way to save them both. That composure isn’t easy, it’s earned, and Ms. Baldwin clearly dips into her own vault of experience in clinical psychology to explain it concisely. The intensity described (in various scenes) was never duplicated and always incorporated me as the third person in the situation; forced to hold my breath lest I betrayed my presence and jeopardized Faith’s position. An engrossing read!
Problem is, Dante’s instability (I am assuming this generalization is acceptable, Dr. Baldwin?) has led him to “delusions of guilt”; to assume responsibility for actions that are not his. Puzzling? Without a doubt. Diagnosing is left to Faith’s expertise, but Dante is suffering through enormous issues if he prefers to be incarcerated. Ms. Baldwin is thorough in her research and gives Dr. Clancy all the proper tools to assess. I may have had to re-read certain theories and diagnoses, but it’s tangibly written. So where exactly does the swoon come in? Trust me when I say Dante (and the real menace) only elicit goosebumps of the nightmare variety. No, that honor goes to Luke Jericho, half brother of Dante.
“And one of the first things you’re going to learn about me is that I don’t mess around. I don’t cajole. I don’t persuade. I don’t seduce. Subterfuge isn’t in my nature.” First his breath was in her hair, fogging up her brain. Then he was whispering close in her ear, melting her like warmed sugar. “When I see something I want, Faith, I don’t apologize. I just go get it.”
I know you’ve swooned, don’t pretend. :D Might as well get comfy with a pillow and luxuriate in all things Luke.
Determined to bridge the distance between Dante and himself (their backstory is heavy with guilt), Luke is going to align proper defense, including Faith, and make-up for the love and support that their father only bestowed upon his “legitimate” heir, Luke. It doesn’t hurt that the attraction between our H/H is mutual and demanding exploration, but Luke insists on waiting until after Dante is exonerated; he won’t detract or become a distraction if it means Dante’s life is forfeit. Luke does TOO good a job staying platonic, IMO, lol, but it laid the foundation of communication and trust. And when it happens…well…Carey Baldwin knows a thing, or twenty, about steam, my friends. ;)
A suspenseful thriller to the very end. Twists were tangled up in twists! Outbursts were swallowed by gasps! And even when you came to suspect where the finger would point, you’re devouring every last word to ensure the guilty would stay guilty (or die!) I’m deliberately being vague – you’ve got to read Confession (and read who’s making it).
And so I’ve reached my least favorite part, the bittersweet ending. Not of the book itself -- the revelations are dramatic!!! I’ll be thinking about Confession for days, raving and recommending to all who will listen (you’ve read this far, go buy the book!), but you at least have the joy of discovering more of Ms. Baldwin’s work. I have to wait for the next installment of Baldwin bliss. I loved Confession!!!!

    Hott Synopsis:
New town. New business. New patient.
Faith Clancy is excited to begin her new life in Santa Fe. Her psychiatric office may be new but she already has her first patient and high hopes. Until her patient confesses to a murder Faith is positive he didn’t commit. She turns him in as she’s ethically required to do but, as it’s not sitting well with her, Faith decides to investigate for herself — and ends up the focus of a maniacal killer.

    Hott Review:
This was a great suspense! I don’t like gory thrillers that are non-realistic and tragic – this was none of that. Confession is an edge of your seat suspense that you don’t WANT to put down! The romance is just icing on a cake!

Carey Baldwin's latest psychological thriller starts out with a unique and chilling set-up: a serial killer with a blood phobia that is keeping him from killing his next victim--the psychiatrist who is trying to cure him. If you love a smart thriller with twists and turns, a cast of characters you can cheer for, and Baldwin's trademark insights into our deepest hopes and fears, then I recommend reading Confession.

This is such an incredible book.  Twists and turns that will keep you surprised.  A character who is so beautifully and realistically  written.  Superb craft throughout. What a plot -- what a page turner!  I usually prefer cozies over serial murder books -- since the latter leaves me with nightmares.  But the hint of romance in this book helped balance the dark and the light. I highly recommend this book.

Carey Baldwin is one of my new favorite suspense authors!  I loved this book.  She introduces you to the cast of characters early, but it doesn't stop the suspense at all.  And she gives you just enough background information on them to hook you.

Faith only has one client, Dante Jericho, and when he confesses to being the Santa Fe Saint, she struggles with turning him in, as she doesn't believe he is guilty.   But she has to do her duty and protect the public on the off chance that he is a threat.

Luke is Dante's half brother and after not seeing him for twenty years is trying to make amends with him.   He calls in the best defense attorney and enlists Faith to help prove that Dante has made a false confession.  Working with Faith proves to not be a hardship in Luke's eyes and the sexual tension that runs between them adds a nice romantic touch to this thriller.

I'm not going to tell you anymore as I would not be able to do the book justice and I don't want to let anything slip!  The ending was fantastic and the creep factor was off the scale.  I finished the book Sunday night after everyone else had gone to bed, and as I continued to read I began noticing all the creaks and groans the house was making.  I spooked myself more than once that night because of this book!  It has been awhile since I have read a book that actually had me checking the locks on my doors before I went to bed!  Nicely done!  Can't wait to see what Ms. Baldwin writes next!

    Wow.

You would NOT expect a very cheap book like this to be so thrilling--and simply wonderful--to begin with. A thrilling book with twists and turns, some making you want to cringe, others to make you squeal with joy, all to make you want to continue reading until you know how the story ends. An excellent book, I would certainly reccomend it.
