this was a great book. i grew up in fishtown area & it was interesting to read this story. my mother's family grew up in fairmount & i used to hang out around the eastern state pen. was i was younger visiting my grandmother. i have an uncle who is a retired roofer. i have talked to him about this book & he knew alot of these guys in the book. he has confirmed alot of what the book portrays. it's great to have someone who was around & knew these guys cause then i get alot of other info that the book does not disclose. from what i've gathered, everything is pretty much accurate. i haven't read a book in about 14 years & this was a great startup book to peak my interest in reading again. definitely A+........Was this review helpful? I found this book to be very interesting and inviting. True or not every page keeps your attention and the corpse in the truck It's not nice to laugh at death but that was 'Funny' I believe it happened K&A gang was like that. What a wonderful book......... Love it. Anonymous in Port RichmondWas this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

More than just an instant classic in the true crime genre, this book crosses the great divide into high quality literary non-fiction as it chronicles the fascinating downward spiral of infamous master thief Junior Kripplebauer and the group of Philly criminals he ran with known as the K&A Gang. K&A is short for Kensington and Allegheny, a once bustling street corner in the rugged Kensington section of Philly. Hornblum chronicles the tale of the notorious crew of burglars that terrorized America's rich and got drunk with it's poor from the 1950's to the 1980's. An Urban Studies Professor at Philly's Temple University, Hornblum elevates the material above typical true-crime fare by subtly paralleling the K&A Gang's demise with the deterioration of the once-proud Kensington neighborhood they sprang from. Whether you're a true crime fan or just a fan of riveting story telling, CONFESSIONS OF A SECOND STORY MAN will pull you in and never let up.Was this review helpful? I was excited to finally get this book, since my Uncle is mentioned. The crazy part is that it all baloney. When he died, he was given the normal (proper)burial and not driven around in a meat truck as stated in this book (isn't abuse of a corpse against the law?). How much of this book is actually fact and did the author ever both to check with family members? (stated in book that there was none)...this IS A DISGRACEWas this review helpful?
