"My bags?" Adrienne asked, incredulous.

"Well, darling, you don't think that we could open the house in Palm Beach without having someone to watch Emma, do you?"

Overview

"Thank God you're here, Adriana!" Mrs. Warner called out.

Taking a deep breath, Adrienne decided to stand up for herself. "Adrienne," she said clearly. "My name is Adrienne."

"How terrible. You should change it. Adriana has a bit of chic to it. Now, where are your bags?"

"My bags?" Adrienne asked, incredulous.

"Well, darling, you don't think that we could open the house in Palm Beach without having someone to watch Emma, do you?"

Sixteen-year-old Adrienne Lewis is in charge of eight-year-old Emma Warner, an evil genius who has gotten all five previous nannies fired -- and Emma is the good news. Because then there's Emma's seventeen-year-old half-sister, Cameron. Everyone knows how wild Cameron is. Everyone knows what a liar Cameron is. Everyone knows what a user Cameron is. Everyone except Adrienne.

Adrienne's best friend, Liz, tries to warn her, but Adrienne tells Liz she's the one who doesn't know the real Cameron! Together, Adrienne and Cameron indulge in shopping sprees, bar hopping, and crazy, drunken parties.

Does Cameron actually want Adrienne to become her new best friend?

Of course not.

Cameron wants Adrienne's boyfriend.

True to life, funny, and oh, so catty, Confessions of a Teen Nanny gives the behind-the-scenes scoop on what it's like to work and play with the rich and famous.

Drawn into the glamour, luxury, and romance of Manhattan's elite by the sister of one of their charges, two sixteen-year-old nannies enjoy high salaries, extravagant gifts, and attention--for which they may have to pay a very high price.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A down-to-earth 16-year-old lands a job as nanny for a wealthy eight-year-old (sneaky) child prodigy in what PW called a "sardonic send-up of young haute society." Ages 14-up. (Mar.) Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Taking care of an 8-year-old kid genius, Emma, is not everything it is cracked up to be. The pay might be the only good thing in the web of stories Adrienne, the nanny, is involved in—that is, if she does not get fired like all the previous nannies. Adrienne is a temporary nanny until the British nanny makes her appearance. Forced to stay much longer than she expected, Adrienne is more of a permanent nanny. Emma's older half-sister, Cameron, is a high-maintenance, lying, stealing, selfish teenager. Cameron convinces Adrienne that they are friends by lavishing her with beautiful clothes, exciting adventures, and other rich luxuries. How will Adrienne learn the truth? Perhaps her wake-up call will come when she almost gets dumped by her man, when her best friends realize she is snooty, when she gets framed, fired, or forgotten. This novel has great themes that touch on subjects such as friendship, money, responsibility, and reality. 2005, Parachute Publishing, Ages 14 up.

VOYA
The characters aren't endearing, but they will keep readers wanting to know what happened to create the opening chapter's setting. The idea of returning to the past to tell a story can be a nice way of reading a book, but at the same time, this book seems to give away a little too much from the start. It could be an entertaining book for teen girls. Unfortunately it feels unfinished, creating an unsatisfying read. VOYA CODES: 3Q 2P J S (Readable without serious defects; For the YA with a special interest in the subject; Junior High, defined as grades 7 to 9; Senior High, defined as grades 10 to 12). 2005, HarperCollins, 208p., and PLB Ages 12 to 18.

School Library Journal
Gr 8 Up-Adrienne is hired as a nanny to Emma Warner, a precocious child from an ultra-rich New York family. Using lies, bribery, and blackmail, the eight-year-old tests Adrienne, but the teen manages to keep the upper hand with her charge-most of the time. The same is not true of Adrienne's relationship with Emma's sister, Cam, who is Adrienne's age. Using the same bag of tricks, she has Adrienne believing that they are friends. What Cam offers would be hard for any teen to resist-free designer clothes, invitations to fabulous parties, flying on a private jet, staying in a mansion. But all that glitters is not gold. Soon she forces Adrienne to arrange clandestine parties where out-of-control rich kids partake of sex, alcohol, and drugs. Then Adrienne is drugged and photographed in compromising situations. Worst of all, she is blamed for jewels stolen at a party. The book ends rather abruptly, with a simple explanation for the stolen jewelry, revealed in one sentence. Whether or not Adrienne wins back the boyfriend Cam attempts to steal is left dangling, as if to pave the way for a sequel. But neither of these shortcomings detracts seriously from the enjoyment of the book. Fans of Cecily von Ziegesar's "Gossip Girl" series or Zoey Dean's "The A-List" series (both Little, Brown) will like this offering.-Catherine Ensley, Latah County Free Library District, Moscow, ID Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

    COATN is amazhin!!!!!!!

I stumbled upon this book at my public library and i saw that there were 2 more when i finished it... i went back 2 the library 2 see if the other 2 were there but they werent. So know i have this nook and im realy excited 2 read the others...... i really want to see adrianne confront brian and see what happens because he was the one who thought nothing of the glamour and wealthiness and i want 2 find out his "explanation"...... also i dont think liz and parkers relationship is going 2 go on 4 very long. I hope cameron gets dogged big time!!! This book deserves 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 stars

    This book is Amazing

When i first started to read the book, i clould not let go. I would even read it when i was eating at the dinner table. This book is really good because I think it shows you that you should be a leader and not be a follwer. Thats my own opinion about this book. Its great, and I how that the auther comes up with more, of these stories. I also wish that they would make a movie about the book, even though when your into the book you can kinda play a movie in your head, but I think its not the same when you see a movie about it. well thats all for now, time to read another similar book.

"Confessions of a Teen Nanny" and what i thought about this book

Over the summer I got this book from a friend and it looked like a great book. I thought that the only way to know for sure that this was a great book was to read and that is what i did. After i starting reading the book i relized that the book was really talking about a sixteen-year-old girl named Adrienne Lewis who was looking for a job. Her best friend Liz Braun was all ready babysitting for the Markham-Collions family at their penthouse on Fifth Avenue. So, Adrienne asked Liz she had know of anyone else looking for a babysitter. Liz had told her that the neighbor was in deed looking for someone to watch their eight-year-oldEmma,Emma. Mr. and Mrs. Warner, Emma's parents are billionaires. So Adrienne thought about met with the parents and then talked to her mother about and went for it. Emma Warner, is an evil genius who has gotten all five previous nannies fired, just cause she didnt like them. By, the 3rd chapter i was relizing that this book kind of relates to me because i watch my brother and sister and they have a lot in common so i cuntined to read this book "Confessions of a Teenage Nanny".

    a reviewer

You 5 star reviewers probably think I'm crazy for rating this 'wondrerful book' 2 stars, but sorry, that's what it deserves. The first few chapters were pretty good and had me glued, but then...it went downhill. The middle was alright, but...I mean, I'm not really a teenager, so what should I know, but for some reason, it doesn't seem like 15 year olds do this kinda stuff, or at least the 15 year olds i know don't drink beer and champange until they're drunk and skinnydip at pool parties. The ending was just horrendus. It was so sad for Adrienne. The ending reminds me of something even shallower than the Clique girls would do (don't get me wrong, I heart the Clique books, lol.) but seriously, that was reeeeeeeeally shallow of Cameron to do. Sorta shallow of Brian to do too. So basically, almost all the people in this book were shallow and backstabbers, accept for Adrienne...but then again, she didn't have much sense, and for most of the book, went along with what Cameron and all her other friends did. This book had very little redeeming qualities and values. But is the perfect example of today's society the negative, the cons, and the bad side of it, anyway. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because the beginning was pretty good.
