But Shark Frenzy can be looked at two ways. For Bon Jovi fanatics it could be an utter, abysmal disappointment, as it sounds absolutely nothing like Bon Jovi. But on the upside, it's a very well-crafted set of pop and soft rock that is polished like a major-label release should have been in 1980. Sambora's guitar playing is just developing into the sound that would make him a guitar god less than a decade later. The rest of the band sounds a bit murky and ...

The rest of the band sounds a bit murky and the songwriting is a bit out of focus at times, but Bruce Stephen Foster's voice and Sambora's guitar playing are the anchors that somehow keep it all together. It's by no means essential to anyone but die-hard Sambora fans, but it's also a fun little curiosity and a sneak peek into the evolution of one of bubblegum metal's most esteemed guitarists.
