Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Meant to be both a meditation on witchcraft and a guide for teens starting on the Wiccan path, Rain's overview of Wiccan practices, rituals, and beliefs offers comments from online contributors and excerpts from her Book of Shadows. Starting with a "Quick Wicca Q & A," which briefs readers on the history of Wicca, the Goddess and God, and how to become initiated as a witch, Rain covers the essentials for beginners. These include instructions on creating and blessing an altar, a guide to the eight Wiccan holidays, and details on circle casting. In addition to these practical matters, Rain examines important aspects of Wiccan life such as the ethical use of magick, the implications of "coming out of the broom closet" to family and friends, and the image of Wicca in our culture. This thoughtful primer on Wicca also would be a useful guide for curious family or friends. The author uses her experiences as a teenaged Wiccan and her contributors' comments for different perspectives on each topic, although their uniform earnestness can feel a bit sanitized. In the discussion of rituals and spells, Rain is careful to include ways to personalize or adapt each one based on preference and circumstance, making this guide particularly useful for beginners. Teens interested in Wicca will find this title appealing and helpful. Truly a good book for the wondering

Written in a well understood style, almost anyone new to the craft can understand and begin to learn from this book. Outbeating her previous two books, Rain takes you deeper into the craft and helps you along to make your own and become a better Wiccan

    fairly good

Gwinevere Rain did a great job at explaining the basics, and helps you understand the teachings of a solitary witch... But that's all. I believe she could have expanded a little more, and therefore giving the reader a deeper insight to the wiccan belief.

The book begins with with a number of beginner questions dealing with what Witches believe and what they practice. The the reader is then emersed into the magickal world of Witchcraft as Rain discusses Wiccan ethics, deities, rituals, celebrations, and tools. The text concludes with an indepth guide to crafting and preforming one's own spells. 'Confessions' is different from many other Teen Witchcraft books because it is deey personal. Rain includes excerpts from her own Book of Shadows, or magickal journal, exhibting her own Wiccan journey.
