Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Successful decision-making is not a talent but a ``learned skill'' composed of ``concentrated thought'' and ``rapid reasoning powers,'' claims business consultant Dawson, author of the audiotape series Secrets of Power Negotiating. His predictable formula for reaching the best decisions and solutions combines analysis, synthesis and judgment and requires developing a sense of timing and ability to handle uncertainty and elements of risk. Using charts, self-evaluation tests and examples of both good and bad decisions, Dawson emphasizes setting goals and priorities, assembling essential data and evaluating alternate solutions--all of which are summarized in a 21-day-plan. David Rouse
Nightingale-Conant is a leading producer of motivational audiocassettes. In a new strategy to expand its market, it has joined forces with book publisher William Morrow to copublish a similar line of books. Morrow will handle retail distribution, while Nightingale-Conant will sell the books through its own catalogs and at programs on the motivational lecture circuit. With his best-selling audio series, "Secrets of Power Negotiating", Dawson is one of Nightingale-Conant's most successful speaker-authors. "Confident Decision Maker" is one of the first results of the new joint venture. Here Dawson lays the framework for helping businesspersons overcome one of today's biggest barriers to productivity--the inability or unwillingness to make decisions. He advises the reader to focus on the decision-making process rather than worry about the decision itself, and he clearly delineates the steps in that process. Though a combination book and cassette package might attract a greater audience, such a product is not now planned. Nonetheless, Dawson's sound guidance should win readers, if not listeners.
