Recently, I read Renee's beautiful book, A Confident Heart. As I absorbed each page, I felt like it was a chronicle of all the lessons I've learned over these years of healing. Chapter-after-chapter, I found myself nodding in agreement with Renee's hard-won wisdom and perspective. Using her own experiences, Renee takes her readers from the shadow of self-doubt to the sunshine of security in Christ. Doubts seem true in the shadow. I can't do this. Things will never change. My life will never get any better. Change is too hard. Renee wrestled with all those doubts and more until she came to realize that "doubt and hope cannot live in our hearts at the same time." Renee explains that it's ok not to be perfect because we serve a God who is. His love won't fail even when we do. We don't have to pretend to have it all together. Guess what? No one else has it together either! However, it's not easy to be honest about our doubts and insecurities. "We fear that if people know we doubt ourselves, they'll start doubting us too." Those of us who struggle with insecurity tend to be expert pretenders, but eventually, we just can't do it anymore. And that's just where God wants us. He wants us raw, restless, and real. Like the Samaritan woman Renee affectionately calls "Sam", the only way God can "satisfy the thirst of [our] soul [is] to help [us] see it." Only Christ can quench the thirst we have for true love and acceptance. Once we quit trying to fill our well with counterfeit water, God is free to pour into us from His limitless supply. God guarantees us a hope-filled future no matter how hopeless our past seems. He finds a way to make every painful experience from the past into something beautiful, useful, and redeemable. We must let God rewrite our stories. Renee writes, "The Holy Spirit showed me I needed to remake my memories by seeing how Jesus had been there all along, and then replace the lies my wounds had led me to believe with new truths He was teaching me through Scripture." Like Sam (and Renee), we can allow God to make our mess into His message. There's only one way to live beyond the shadow of our doubts. We must change our focus from self to God. "Turning leads to transforming...and transforming leads to believing as God's thoughts [about us] become our Truth." Turning away from self Turning away from doubt Turning away from darkness Turning toward God Turning toward Truth Turning toward Light If you struggle with believing in your personal worth, pick up A Confident Heart today. Renee has been there, and she found the way to truth.

Shaky confidence is something I've always struggled with. Reading this book made me feel normal and far from alone. It reassured me and led me to God's word to find my confidence, not in the eyes of others. If you've ever experienced doubt...read this to be reminded of God's love and His never wavering ability to use you for His glory.

What an incredible book. In a sea of Christian non-fiction and self-help books, A Confident Heart, is worth picking up and digging into! She tackles the cloud of self doubt and insecurity that robs women of their confidence in God. She anchors each chapter with scripture and challenges readers to look at the promises of God. Through her transparent dialogue, she peels the layers back and provides an open, honest space to discern the corners of our hearts that wrestle in the area of fear, doubt and insecurity. Pick this book up! It's worth the read.

A Confident Heart memorable quotes.... "From the time we are kids, we look to people: parents, friends, teachers, bosses, boyfriends, ministry leaders, or whoever else is in a position of importance to us. We long for their approval because it gives us a sense of significance, but then we feel like we are only as valuable as our last accomplishment." "Our schedules are full, our minds are full, our stomaches are full, our refrigerators are full, our closets are full, our lives are full. Yet we find ourselves with so many empty places." "Is there pain from your yesterdays or disappointments in your today that have caused you to lose your confidence and hope? When you have been wounded, the risk of getting hurt again seems more costly, and perhaps even more likely, doesn't it? The things that hurt us are as varied as the lies we believe because of them...." "Worry...... robs us physically, leaving us exhausted; robs us emotionally, leaving us anxious; robs us mentally, leaving us scattered; robs us spiritually, leaving us depleted." "You are....Emmanuel, El-Channun, El Hanne'eman, El Roi, El ha-Gibbor, El Shaddai, El Sali, El Olam, El Elyon, Elohim, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Shalom, Yahweh Tsuri, Jehovah Rohi, Jehovah Shammah, Abba" "Remember, God is not looking for a woman who is perfect. He is looking for a woman who wants to walk with Jesus and find her confidence through her daily dependence on Him. Chapter 12 contains Powerful Promises from God. One example... When I say, I can't figure things out, God says, I will direct your steps. Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

A Confident Heart is a book I really need to read! Sometimes I have so much trouble with self doubts, and I seem to be going through them now. Renee reminded me of so many things, things I've heard before but I needed to hear again. Doubt robs us of things in our physical and spiritual life. I think of several things I've wanted to venture out and do, but I didn't because I didn't think I could, or didn't thing I was worthy. One of the worse doubts for me is that some things in my life will never change, and because of those things, my life is never going to get better. But reading what the author says about "Its Not Suppose to Be This Way" early in the book, I was encouraged with the scripture and the promises she brought out from God's Word that we can claim. This is just the beginning of what Renee will teach you in this wonderful book on doubting yourself. Throughout the book, she talks about many things in our lives that make us self-doubting ladies. She steps on my toes many times, that is for sure. But she also goes to the scripture and shows us how we can fill those empty spaces in our hearts, how we can run toward God with our self doubts, and how we can break free from our lives as they are now and get to know the real us! And one thing that stood out more than anything I read is that God is not limited by my limitations. God can do anything He wants, anyway He wants, at any time he wants. This is a book I recommend to every lady out there because I believe we all, at some time or another go through doubts in our lives. You won't be sorry you read this book! I will be keeping my copy to refer to time and time again. I was provided a copy of this book from Donna at Revell to read and review. I was not required or expected to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

This is a book I should have read many years ago. Sadly, it wasn't around back then... but thankfully, Renee Swope has written it now. What a blessing this book will be to all the women who struggle with doubt and self-worth. And that's a lot of us! Renee share from her heart. Chapter after chapter, she shares stories from her past, her personal experiences that tell us that she's had the same struggles as we have. As I read along, I can't help but see myself in each page. I'm thinking "That's me! She's telling my story!" While I've learned alot since those years long ago, this book is a great reminder for me. We need to be reminded, and often. It's a hard road to get from believing in God... to believing God. Follow along with Renee as she shares not only from experience, but from scripture as well. Each chapter begins with a Bible verse and ends in a prayer to teach you how to pray God's promises. Following that are questions for discussion and reflection. This is a great Bible study that I highly recommend if you need healing in this area of doubt. *Revell Books and Baker Publishing Group have provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review. ~ Thank you!

When I read this book, I felt like Renee had read my journals. She speaks of insecurities that NO one actually talks about, but that I am discovering most women privately FEEL. God has given Renee a vital, timely, powerful message that many women need to hear. I know my heart needed to hear God's words through her. She is a shining light for God, and truly, I wish I could hug her neck and thank her for this book. Her words are eloquently spoken, with the gentleness of a dear friend, and judgement is never uttered, not even as an after-thought. Only grace, pure and simple. Renee is completely honest and transparent in her writing. Sometimes, I felt taken aback by how honest and open she was. However, that is exactly why this book hits home! Renee doesn't dance around the heart of the issues, she dives right in, using her own life as an example. She never speaks as one who is "above" the problem, or as a "holier-than-thou" telling mere weaklings how to live. She lives her message. Her life is a powerful testimony of God's grace and unfailing love. She describes how to overcome feelings of doubt, discouragement, and the all-powerful comparison trap. This book doesn't leave you feeling guilty, alone, or discouraged because of self-doubt. She uses God's Word to show you His unfailing love and how to claim His promises and rise above the doubts. She even includes a chart of how to replace doubts and critical feelings with the truth of God's Word. I often get frustrated, not knowing how best to minister, how to encourage others, and how to use my "vapor" of a life to make a difference. I love this quote from Renee, and I'm claiming its promise: "As we find our deepest delight in our personal relationship with God and allow His Word to shape our thinking and plans, the Lord promises to shape our desires as well. There is a connection between our delighting in God and discovering our heart's desires." ~ from A Confident Heart I could honestly do an entire series on my blog about this book. This would be a wonderful book for a book club to go through together. I wish I had this book years ago. Truly, if I could buy each of you this book, I would do it. It's that good. Buy it. You won't regret it!

A Confident Heart (How to stop doubting yourself and live in the security of God's promises)is a faith building, life changing, encouraging read. The author, Renee Swope, shares with the reader her life history and experiences regarding doubt, worry, and insecurity. It is so easy to relate to Renee because she is so transparent and real in expressing her transformation from being insecure and unfulfilled in who she was (in Christ) to becoming a confident, secure woman who can stand in the truth and promises of God and his Word without doubting - and freeing herself from the lies of Satan. The author uses God's word throughout the book to convict, correct, and encourage a healthy perspective of self and self-worth. Many of the chapters were very eye opening for me in helping to reveal areas in my spiritual walk that may need adjustment that I previously have not contemplated. I was very impressed with the writing style in this book and was engaged throughout, gleaning something that I could contemplate and meditate on in every chapter. I recommend that every woman read this well-written book, even if you don't think you have a confidence or self-worth issue. I received this book as part of the Revell Book Blog Tour program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. "A Confident Heart" has changed the direction my heart was going. I was at a point of wanting to forget my dreams of writing and speaking. The very dreams God Himself into my heart. I wanted to shut my blog and put this writing thing behind me. That is when God interrupted my thoughts and "A Confident Heart" arrived in my mail box. Until reading this book I was unaware of how self-doubt was consuming me.From chapter one I have felt this is a message straight from my Creator through Renee. Through reading "A Confident Heart" I have re-focused my God-given dreams and gifts and my confidence is fully in Him. Like Renee said in the book, "I never felt able, but I knew God wanted me to be available". Through reading this book, the available part is what I now get. ~ Lelia C.

Renee Swope in her new book, "A Confident Heart" published by Revell teaches us How to Stop Doubting Yourself and Live in the Security of God's Promises. The Dictionary defines "doubt" as: "to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe". Once we doubt then we are either slow to action or we don't do anything at all; we become immobilized. Renee Swope has dealt with doubt and she provides the way we can all overcome our doubts and not only move on in life but be pro-active rather than reactive. "A Confident Heart" covers such topics as: Discovering the shadow of our doubts, Realizing we don't have to be perfect because God's love is, God's promises of hope despite the pain of our pasts, Living beyond the shadow of our doubts, What to do when doubt whispers: (a)"I'm not good enough", (b)"I'm such a failure", (c)"I don't have anything special to offer", (d)"I can't stop worrying", (e)"I can't follow God consistently" and Becoming the woman I want to be, Living in the security of God's promise. Within these pages are the means we need to renew our mind and be transformed from doubters to faith-filled believers. Will this happen overnight? No! But it will happen if we apply what we have learned and stick to it. After all it took quite a while for the doubt to take hold now we just have to flush it out with the truth that is presented here. Through stories from her own life Ms. Swope gives us practical answers and solutions to what we can do to overcome our fears and doubts. A confident heart doesn't come just because it's possible, we will have to take action. We have to turn to God's thoughts toward us every day. To help us at the end of each chapter there is a scripture-based prayer that leads us to "Praying God's Promises." There is also a way to go deeper in the Reflection and Discussion questions. I recommend this book highly. If you would like to listen to interviews with other authors and professionals please go to Kingdom Highlights where they are available On Demand. A Confident Heart has reminded me of the love that my Savior has for me and the confidence that He has in me. He created me for a purpose and He's not going to fail me. As long as I continue to walk with Him, "He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it." Renee's words helped me to feel "normal" in the inadequacies that I "feel", and yet confident in the ONE, Jesus, who completes me.

I think it's every woman's desire to be strong and confident, at least, it's always been one of mine. The world places confidence in many earthly things that pass away, but for a woman living her life to please the Father, finding confidence in Him is key, it's REAL, it's eternal. Rich and interwoven with the truth of God's love, compassion, patience, and never-ending supply of power, Renee's book asks the questions that will have you probing your past so that you can move on from all that still binds you and into the present with a searching heart to the truths that have been stored. A Confident Heart moved me from looking at my past with sorrow to looking towards my future of living a life that's rooted and grounded in the confidence of Christ. ~

I am a woman well acquainted with the burdensome weight of perfectionism and insecurity. Exhausted, discouraged, and embarrassed by my struggles, I cried out to God for help. A Confident Heart has been part of God's answer to that prayer. How my heart felt lighter just knowing I am not alone in this fierce battle with doubt! Renee's warmth and transparency coupled with powerful truths from God's Word have provided an awesome arsenal for me to use as I fight against the lies I have believed and lived by for far too long. A Confident Heart is a book that has encouraged and equipped me, a book that has offered healing and hope through the precious promises of God.

I knew I struggled with doubt, but "A Confident Heart" has shown me the depth of this stronghold in my life. Doubt affects all areas - wife, mom, friend, ministry leader and most importantly child of God. God has convicted me, challenged me and brought me to tears as I see myself on the pages of this book! But more than that - through Renee's example, teaching, and His promises, God has used "A Confident Heart" to encourage me, equip me and change me!!! Honestly, I believe everyone should read this book! ~Jill B.
