School Library Journal - School Library JournalGr 5-8-A book that is serviceable but not particularly engaging. It presents the facts of Confucius's life, but fails to convey a real sense of his times. Quotations are scattered liberally throughout the text, and an endnote explains what is known about Confucius and his writings. The book includes a comparison of Pinyin and Wade-Giles Chinese spellings, which is of little value, and there is no guide to Chinese pronunciation or glossary that includes the corresponding Chinese characters. Small, often dark photos and reproductions appear throughout.-Marilyn Heath, Greenwood High School, SC Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.

One of history's most influential people comes to life in the pages of this beautiful book. I was brought through the life of Confucius and saw how his teachings grew from his experiences and from his dreams of building a better society. Eastern thought has always been interesting to me but very few people have the ability to make it as understandable as this author does. This book would be a wonderful choice for students or for anyone interested in learning more about the greatest teacher that ever lived.
