Congas Full Circle

Overview

Congas Full Circle satisfies a missing link in percussion literature. This is the first book for congas and hand drumming that breaks down the patterns of various styles (almost 50!) into small sections that can be digested easier. Although there are many high quality books for hand drummers, the books merely notate the patterns without teaching the reader how to play the rhythms. Congas Full Circle will fill that void. More About This Book

The book includes many exercises to teach the reader how to play rudiments on congas while improving your quality of sound. There are also examples of styles for djembe, batá, bongos, and cajones with music spanning from early African patterns to modern day Salsa and Timba. With almost 400 pages, this is the most comprehensive book on congas available.

The new staple for hand drummers!

I have seen other books from Dr. Jackson so wanted to see his view about playing congas. This is by far the most comprehensive book on playing congas and other hand percussion instruments. Other books on the subject simply notate the patterns and then a variation, but Congas Full Circle actually helps the percussionist to play to patterns. Each pattern, including some I haven't heard of, is broken down which helps you learn how to practice properly. The notation also shows what hand to use and what sound in case you are not a strong music reader.
I have seen a lot of other conga books, and some are pretty good. But none of them contain as much knowledge on playing conga patterns as this book. He also has a couple of solos in the book which is obviously getting hype for an upcoming book which is supposed to be a book of conga solos. This book will become part of the standard repertoire of every percussionist for decades. I recommend that you get this book!
