Overview

Congressional Travels: Places, Connections, and Authenticity
Richard Fenno

This engaging new text by renowned author Richard Fenno argues that authenticity– knowing what a representative is like in his district and looking beyond mere roll call voting–contributes significantly to understanding the full body of work done by our members of Congress. Showcasing the author’s trademark “homespun” narrative style, Political Travels: Congress, Connections and Authenticity posits that the best way to gain a sense of authenticity is to observe representatives at home, with their constituents, in their districts.

Features

  • Boasts one of the most well-respected and loved scholars in political science. Richard Fenno is a past president of the American Political Science Association, and the APSA continues to offer an award every year–for the best book on legislative politics–that bears his name. He has published a long list of seminal books including Home Style: House Members in Their Districts.
  • Offers a humanizing alterative to the increasingly specialized and technical nature of most political science conducted today by offering personal observations and engaging stories of actual members of Congress.
