¿The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid..¿ This is how Isaiah Chapter 11:6 of the Bible starts. In the household of author Stacy Mantle..the coyote shall fetch the beagle, and hold him down for his daily meds. The ferret shall aid in the capture of a feral kitten, and the owner of this diverse household of multi-species shall bring you into the center of her world with humor, and stir you to tears. Learn about the Ghost in her life, one that controls the remote, and sees to it that Stacy only spends quality time after work. Take a delightful departure from your own busy life, and laugh along with her as she navigates her way up and down the food chain of her life. This reader was moved beyond tears when Stacy explains in a simple, yet compelling fashion about what rescue work truly means, after finding a diseased cat along a roadside. Her book shows you what determination, hard work and understanding animals can achieve over time. At the end of the book, you are left with a hunger all your own. You find yourself craving a sequel!
I must admit that I do fall for just ANY book filled with fun pet stories, but 'Conquering the Food Chain' truly impressed me. Bursting with short stories about the author's amusing & smart pets, this book is written in a clever, touching way that any animal lover (and even those who aren't animal lovers are bound to worship pets after having read Stacy Mantle's book!) will enjoy tremendously. As for me, I want to thank Mrs. Mantle for having written a book which describes so well the wonderful yet sometimes exasperating feeling of being a pet owner. Let me know if you publish another book - I'd love to read it!
Conquering the Food Chain is a well-written, hilarious and touching compilation of short stories with which any animal lover or pet owner can identify. From puppy mischeviousness to feline arrogance, this book covers it all...and keeps you laughing all the way through. Great Job Ms. Mantle! When does the next book come out?
