Overview

Book #1 of the bestselling Consequences series:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a suspenseful thriller about secrets and deception, passion and love, choices and consequences.

Every action has consequences.

Waking in an unfamiliar bedroom in a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols is terrified to discover that a chance encounter led her into the cruel hands of her abductor, Anthony Rawlings. Claire has no understanding of why she's there, but it's been made abundantly clear--she is now his acquisition and every action has consequences.

Learn the rules to survive.

Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive her new reality--every aspect of her livelihood depends upon the tall, dark-eyed tycoon who is a true master of deception. Driven by unknown demons, he has no tolerance for imperfection, in any aspect of his life, including his recent acquisition. Anthony may appear to the world as a handsome, benevolent businessman, but in reality Claire knows firsthand that he's a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as you're told, public failure is not an option, and appearances are of the utmost importance.

Captivate the captor.

To fit together the pieces of the puzzle, Claire must follow his rules. Will her plan work, or will Anthony become enthralled by Claire's beauty, resilience, and determination, changing the game forever? If that happens, will either of them survive the consequences?

Nobody ever did or ever will escape the consequences of his choices.--Alfred A. Montapert

CONSEQUENCES is definitely a book you have to read. I hope it evokes the same crazy emotions in you that it did in me and you love it as much as I did!

Consequences isn’t what I would call a romance novel. There are sex scenes but they aren’t done in a typical romance way. For me, the book would be more of a psychological thriller or straight up suspense. The book is about one relationship, Tony and Claire, but it does not follow the typical relationship pattern. Bravo to Ms. Romig for shocking the heck out of me.

This was a good book, a book that makes you think how strong the persuasive powers of control and dependency are to a person's well-being. There is a lot that goes on and I can probably write an essay about all the psychological implications they produce but I'll just say it's worth reading and hopefully there will be sequel.

    Great book

There were few things that bothered me or maybe I should say disturb me, the mental and physical abuse that are part of the story. It is not for everyone to read but it is worth it and it will make you want to continue reading the sequel, Truth!

    Ugh

Okay so I will be in the minority here. I did not give this book two stars because I am worried about women being dehumanized. This book was just flat out annoying do to the constant repetative slow chapters. The book dragged on and on. I skim through so much in the beginning do to it being so damn slow never missing a thing. Finally ended up going to chapter 40 to get to the point of the book and still skimmed. Finally the last two chapters getting to the meat of the book. So sad when a book has so much potential, but the author is forced to have so many words to create a book, therefore dragging a book out until it is beyond annoying.

Now, after saying all that, the last two chapters hooked me. Now I need to know what happens. I hope the second book isntnas annoying.

    Not what I was expecting.

Why is this book considered a thriller? To me, it was a long story about a man who beats and controls a woman and her falling in love with him. I was looking for a romantic thriller, instead I got disturbing book about rape and control.

    What a waste!

Ridulously long with a heroine in which you quickly lose respect--along with an unlikely ending that appears only to serve the author's purpose to get the reader to buy the next book in the series--pathetic! Very dissatisfying!

    OMG

OMG! This knocks your socks off. It is NOT romantic so if you have problems with rape or brutality DO NOT read the books. I have to point out one unbelievable point of this book. Prisoners of rapist dont have soft warm fuzzy feelings about the people who assist in the captivity. Whoever thought of that storyline is not of this world. My first thought was that whoever came in the room was gonna get a butt beating and instead the victim lovingly asked her to stay. Bull!

This book was not what I expected! At first, I thought it was a simple story of a young woman overcoming obstacles, but as I started reading I realized it was so much more. At first, I didn't like the character of Tony and I thought Claire was weak, but as their story unfolded I realized Claire wasn't weak and I actually hated Tony. The story had twists and turns that couldn't be predicted by the reader and just when I thought I had it figured out...BAM, something unexpected happened. This is a great first novel by Aleatha Roming and I look forward to reading more of her work.

He spoke again as if he hadn’t just shattered his promise and her security. Her house of glass now lay in a pile of shards.”

“Life is not what it's supposed to be. It's what it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.”

Consequences by Aleatha Romig is the first book in the Consequences series. I'm trying to write this review while its still fresh in mind after completing it just a few hours ago. Of course, I needed a little to mentally recover from this read. Aleatha Romig had me hooked from the beginning. This was a dark, thrilling adventure. I say adventure because it definitely took me through all the emotions, angry, disgusted, elated, sad, and bewildered. Clair Nichols is a young woman whom lost her dream job of being a meteorologist and finds herself down on her luck working as a bartender. She meets Anthony Rawlings, a successful charming businessman. To Anthony appearances are of the utmost importance. A signature on a napkin entangles Claire in an unfamiliar contract resulting in Claire waking up in her prison. Her prison consists of her suite in Anthony's mansion. Claire is given a lists of rules she must follow in order to escape her prison and public failure is not an option. In order to survive each day Claire has to put on her mask each day and compartmentalize her situation. Claire has few freedoms, but even more limitations involving no access to telephones or computers. Clair begins to captivate her captor, and unbeknownst may start to have feelings for this man. Or is Claire just playing her part a little too well? Claire quickly learns each action has consequences.

"To say he was cruel would not explain what she endured. One could say demanding, aggressive, abrasive, controlling-but above all, brutal."

    Difficult but worth it

There were several times I wanted to quit reading simply because the subject matter is very controversial, but I'm glad I stuck to the end. I will be reading the next book. This book does contain rape and is overall very demeaning to women.

Very surprised at the overall ratings of this novel (the majority being 5 stars). If you enjoyed reading about an abusive and controlling relationship, then this book is for you. I really got tired of the repeated references to the couple's sexual encounters, many of which in the beginning were nothing more than rapes. The "heroine" is an abused and degraded victim who subsequently falls in "love" with her captor, a brutally sadistic and controlling psychopath. The ending makes absolutely no sense and leaves the reader wondering why the victim is further victimized. I kept reading, hoping the story would get better; unfortunately, it didn't.

When I first began this book I wasn't sure that I would like it

When I first began this book I wasn't sure that I would like it because as a woman I have very strong opinions regarding kidnapping, rape, physical, and mental abuse.  I didn't think I would enjoy reading a dark book about these topics but this book totally sucked me in.  In the beginning I detested Tony and wanted to see him burn.  I didn't think he could possibly be redeemable because of the things he did to Claire.  As the book unfolded I found that at times I hated him, pitied him, even loved him. There was so many things in Tony's back story that came to light that explained Tony's thought processes.  Not that his past justified his actions but at times I felt that they were understandable to a certain extent.   This book managed to twist me into knots and I couldn't wait to read the second in the series.

Seriously people, you have to read this book like... yesterday,

Seriously people, you have to read this book like... yesterday, but first thing first, don't go into it thinking that this is another Fifty Shades of Grey book, because it isn't, even though the description could fool you into thinking that you'll read about another Dom-innocent woman relationship. Oh, no! I didn't even thought when I first started this series that we'll have a HEA kind of ending!

He is the mastermind of mind games, the man who simply HAS to have everything under control and who can't admit a weakness under no circumstances. He's like a piece of a very complicated puzzle who toys with your mind and makes you feel safe and well... not exactly happy, but good... very, very good... until BAAAM!! And you have a complete stranger in your arms, a dangerous one that he would do anything to make himself clear....

So, from the start of this story, we delve into the depths of  this story, we don't know exactly how she finds herself trapped with this cruel, cunning and perverse man. I HATED him with every fiber of my being, because he's not a hero. You know that I'm not the kind of girl who doesn't give everyone a chance, because I believe that everyone deserves a second chance and obviously he IS the main male character, but from the first moment until the ending he is a manipulative bastard. Oh, he has his moments where we see more from him, beneath the layers it seems the a damaged human being lives, but he's so full of defenses you simply have to dig very deep...

In the start, I was sure that Claire must be crazy, because no human being could be so cruel and kidnapp a defenseless and innocent woman, even if it has happened everything with her  'consent' and even more so, now that she's his tot do everything he wants, he rapes her, abuse her body and mind without a remorse. But, somehow, in this world of deceipt where he is the master of deception and no one knows their truth, somehow they find a way to fall in love or at least in lust, but, like always, Tony's nature to control her ruinates destroys the little emotiones that start to grow between them, and in that moments, I hate him with a vengeance, because he has no scruples to get what he wants.

Anthony may appear to the world as a prosperous, benevolent, kind businessman, but in reality Claire learns he is also a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as your told, public failure is not an option, and don't divulge private information.

Like in the image and quote, Anthony Rawlings is a walking contradiction, from time to time, or page to page we can see a damaged man in search of salvation, a beautiful man in search of his soulmate, but the other times, we see the menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as your told, public failure is not an option and he won't ever grant Claire's freedom... because she has to pay. But I stop now before I reveal too much...

You must now by now that this is not your traditional hero, you'll hate him so much, and more so you'll hate yourself even more for trying to understand this cold-hearted, manipulative, lying bastard, but you'll also want desperately to find a redeeming quality about him, because some scenes are... shocking and horrifying...

Claire, on the other part, was courageous and so, so likeable. I think that some readers will understand her decisions, because Rawlings had all of us fooled, but I also know that some of you will not understand many of them, because she had many opportunities to run and/or find help, but she chose not to, even more so, from their first outings she was fascinated and attracted to him, when she should have been repulsed...

But I was also sorry for her and even shed a tear for her situation, trapped in a world she didn't understand with a man so confusing and alone, withput her friends or family... just her and a gorgeus monster.

So you may ask yourself... why would you read this book? What's so special about it? It's the story, because Aleatha Romig creates  a world where the crimes of the past mixes with a romance, fueled with strong emotions like love, anger, vengeance, fury and  from the opening criminal abduction, through the twists and turns, to the unlikely romantic thrills, the suspense climaxes as Aleatha Romig utilizes vivid detail, allowing this novel to unfold like a movie....every word is completely true.

Through the book there have been some moments where I was sure that I should either give up and not to read a word from it or to throw my kindle on the window, even more so because this book was very long, and like I already said some scenes were more than I could endure ... but you can see my reaction right here:

But I'm so glad that I haven't give up and find out their end... because it promise even more of a mind f**ck than this one was and it was mind blowing! I have to repeat- this book is NOTHING  graphic or descriptive, even though we have love scene, fight scenes... all of them had am emotional impact over me, but not one of them where graphic... so don't be afraid and buy it like right freaking now! You won't regret it and you'll just want to grab the next book, because Consequences was that good. So, about witing to read the next one...

Final Decision- If you want a book that we'll give a crazy ride, one that you'll NEVER forget, but we'll make you see that the world has all kinds of shades, that sometimes there is no good or evil... or if you just want to read a book with criminal secrets and mastermind plans, thive my ratingen this is your book!!!

Before I give my rating, I just want to say: Well  done Ms. Romig!

I thought this book was boring. It was pages and pages of the same thing over and over again. The same story could have been told in much less time. I'd like to know how it ends but I don't think I'll bother getting the next book.
