Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lorraine Donohue Bonzelet
Readers would be mistaken to think that the twelfth and final book in the "Conspiracy 365" series will quickly and neatly pull the storyline together. The suspense continues with twists that tease the reader until the final pages. Cal discovers that his mum has an envelope from Rathbone containing the Ormond Jewel and Riddle. Cal wonders if his mum is the one who attacked him, locking him in the coffin to die. He and his friends fly to Ireland with the help of Sharkey and Cal's look-alike, Ryan. Sligo and Zombie Two leave a trail of death and destruction, catch Cal, and throw him into an underground dungeon with a razor-sharp spike, slimy walls, and sewage water. When death seems inevitable, Cal calls upon the Ormond Angel for help. Coincidently, Rafe saves Cal's life. With the Ormond Riddle complete, the Jewel in hand, and the Ormond Singularity at their fingertips, Sharkey, Rafe and Cal experience an intense finale. This series is a fast-paced, entertaining, mystery-thriller at the superficial level but it certainly begs for more in-depth discussions. Does the reader believe in luck, coincidence, or karma? How are false pretenses, assumptions, and misinformation used to determine the innocence or guilt of a person, like Cal's mum, Rafe, or Sharkey? How does the desire for money lead to the demise of family, friends, and innocent bystanders? Why do some deaths bring emotions of sorrow while others bring relief or joy? Topics of fate, morals, assumptions, rumors, guilt, innocence, life, and death can be used to connect the book with current news events. Book twelve in the "Conspiracy 365" series. In the last book of the series, Conspiracy 365: December, written by Gabrielle Lord, the clock counts down as the 15 year old fugitive Callum Ormond struggles to unravel the Ormond Singularity before it expires on December 31st at midnight. To put more pressure on him, villains such as Sligo Vulkan and Sheldrake Rathbone are also after the Ormond Singularity which they believe will make them rich. They will target and harm Cal since he is the rightful heir to the Ormond Singularity which first began with Black Tom. Cal will have to survive from his enemies and go through many obstacles such as evading the police in order to discover the Ormond family secret. Helping him on his Dangerous Mission of Ormonds (DMO) are Winter, Boges, and Detective Sharkey. Cal and the others desperately need go to Ireland and use his deceased dad’s notes, the Ormond Jewel, and the Ormond Riddle to find the Ormond Singularity. In the end, there will be a twist of events that will leave readers excited and shocked. I found the book very thrilling and unpredictable because of the discoveries and secrets that Cal uncovers. Cal also experiences problems with his family, specifically his mum who has changed her personality. He discovers his long lost twin brother Samuel, too.  This book is filled with adventure and excitement with the Ormond Singularity leaving a trail of death and destruction. The book revolves around trust and disloyalty because Cal will need to know to know who to trust and who will betray him on his quest. Throughout the book, Cal will find out the identities of the Little Prince, Double Trouble, and Deep Water from Rathbone’s list of enemies and discover the truth about his dad’s death. I enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it to everyone who loves dangerous adventures. The ending of the book is very suspenseful, and the readers will get unexpected answers as they read further into the book.
