Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Thirty-eight constellations are featured as black-and-white line drawings that are missing the final outline. The reader is asked to follow the numbers to complete the drawing. The constellations are organized by the season in which they are visible in the night sky. Much of this background information is about the Greek legend for which the constellation was named. However the names and stories of some other cultures are included. The Egyptians saw a hippopotamus in Ursa Minor and in the Chinese zodiac, Aries is a Dog. The number of stars in the constellation, some facts about those stars and a tidbit of general information about astronomy are included with each constellation. Did you know that Daneb, the bright star at the end of the tail of Cygnus, The Swan, is 60 times the width of our sun and 60,000 times as bright. The line drawings are not very imaginative and the dot-to-dot progression is completely predictable. It is a good introduction to common Greek myths. 2001, Sterling Publishing, $5.95. Ages 6 to 12.
