Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Erika Clark
This fun book tells a story of a group of construction workers who work hard as a team to make a strong and luminous road. First, they make the plans. Then they place the stakes down. The workers push the dirt on the ground, collect the dirt in the dump truck, dump the rocks, and lay the gravel. Building a road is hard work, and it takes a team with a plan to get the job done. Readers can use this book to practice basic word recognition and to build technical, Tier 2 and Tier 3 verbs in the target language. Not only will the young reader learn new words that are specific to this topic, they will also read great onomatopoeias in Spanish. Teachers could even use this book to build character and school culture in the classroom. The construction workers all have a common project and they must create a plan before they can start working. In addition, all of the workers have individual goals that contribute to accomplishing the common goal. Similarly, students at any grade level must set objectives, plan as a group to complete a group task, and learn how to work together in a systematic and efficient way. Students also learn the importance in the steps it takes to construct something that we may take for granted or use every day. Reviewer: Erika Clark; Ages 2 to 5.
