I am a Consumer Reports nut, so when I was looking to purchase baby gear, I thought this book would be ideal to help make the decisions easier. Once I started reading the info, however, I realized that most of the reviews are out of date and many products weren't reviewed at all. Many of the baby products are only reviewed every few years, so the models that they are talking about no longer exist, and problems have been improved upon. The majority of the categories just talk about what the different choices are and offered no guidance as to what was necessary, convenient or not worth purchasing. I am surprised to say that I think that Consumer Reports fails with this book. You would be better off purchasing a subscription to their magazine and reading the reviews when they come out than purchase this book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This is a great book for brand new parents. It can be very overwhelming when attempting to choose from the many different products that are available for babies. This book will give a detailed explanation of what each piece of equipment is for, the different variations of each product, etc. When we registered, I used this book constantly as a reference. The only thing I was dissapointed in was the fact that they did not 'review' all of the products. For some products, they just told you the different amenities it came with and gave a very general description of it without describing how it performed when actually put to use. All in all, I would definitely recommend this book to new parents! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

A friend gave this book to me for a shower gift and it was a godsend at the baby superstore. It really helped me figure out what I needed to buy and what I could live without--and to pick out the right stroller, crib and car seat, plus all the information is new, since the book is just out. I'm a long-time subscriber to CONSUMER REPORTS and I trust their unbiased advice over other kinds of baby products books. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
