Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Radi Masri, DDS, MS, PhD (University of Maryland)
Description: This comprehensive review of current concepts in fixed prosthodontics details all aspects of patient treatment and covers a broad array of topics ranging from treatment planning and preparation to clinical procedures and laboratory procedures. This edition is significantly improved from the previous edition published in 2000.
Purpose: The fourth edition is intended to serve as an indexed reference and a reliable resource for information in the field. With the increased demand on competent clinicians and the changes in education curricula, the book is certainly needed and covers all aspects of fixed prosthodontics.
Audience: It is intended for dental students, postdoctoral residents, practicing dentists, and researchers. It contains all the basic information needed for beginners, yet it also covers the advanced topics that interest the specialists. Written by well known authorities in the field, this book promises to serve as a reliable, in-depth reference in the art and science of fixed prosthodontics.
Features: Each of the book's four parts addresses a different aspect of fixed prosthodontics. It comprehensively covers topics ranging from examination and treatment planning to treatment completion and insertion of restorations. A whole section is dedicated to laboratory procedures for the fabrication of fixed restorations. The text is replete with magnificent color illustrations and detailed clinical pictures. It is well referenced and contains a full reprint of the Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms, eighth edition (GPT8). Conveniently, at the end of the book, indexes detail the dental materials and equipment mentioned in the text as well as manufacturers.
Assessment: This fourth edition is significantly improved from the previous edition especially with the addition of colored illustrations. It is a valuable asset and a comprehensive resource for dental students, practitioners, and specialists. It is one of the most reliable, well referenced, and detailed books in the field.
