Overview

In Laura Marie Altom’s billionaire romance, the first novel in the Shamed series—perfect for fans of Sandi Lynn and J. S. Scott—a broken woman discovers release and redemption in the arms of the only man she could ever love.

Never again. Fleeing her hometown to escape an abusive marriage, Ella Patton swears she has surrendered to a man for the last time. But while living under a new name, she meets a kind, handsome stranger who seems different—and will be moving on soon, making Ella reckless enough to break her rules. With a kiss, the stranger opens the door to desires Ella believed she would never know. Then he makes a shocking proposition.

A dot-com billionaire from humble beginnings, Liam Stone is a man whose past has made him compassionate yet guarded—much like the beautiful, secretive woman he stumbles upon in a remote Southern town. Though he expects nothing more than a fling, when the time comes to return home to San Francisco, Liam cannot stand the thought of ending things so soon, if ever. But when he tries to tempt her into joining him, he finds the tables turning dizzingly fast. Suddenly a little seduction becomes a huge battle for one thing: control.

Note: Control ends on a cliffhanger. Ella and Liam’s story continues in Possess!

Good story line but there were a few things that aggravated me. It got a little tiring that every time Liam and Ella got together, they would fight. It was like... come on already! The ending was disappointing. Liam knew she ran away from her abusive husband - you'd think he'd ask if she was still married to him. And so what? Get engaged and then pay Blaine off to divorce her. But Liam is freaking out and "thinking" terrible stuff again. There is probably going to be some big fight and she'll leave AGAIN. Overall, I thought the story was good and I was really rooting for them to make it. Hopefully in the next book Ella will get to be the princess she deserves to be.

**ARC provided by Loveswept via NetGalley** I really liked this book & am looking forward to new books from this author. I loved the rockiness and realness of Julie and Liam's relationship. The only thing I found odd was her description of him in the beginning. At first, it didn't seem like she even thought he was attractive. I can't wait to see how her past will catch up with them and really need to read book two, especially after that ending!!

I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I like both of the main characters together, but I didn't like the situation they were in. I didn't like Liam's initial way of trying to be with Ella, and it took me awhile to get into the story because of it, and then the story felt really rushed at the end. What did save this book for me was that Liam wasn't man-whoring around; although there was mention of how he could get any woman, and I hate when books say that because the women in the book usually are pathetic when it comes to the main male character, and I know there are some women out there who would do anything for some hot guy with money, but sometimes or rather all the time it's ridiculous. There was some mention of Liam's ways with women, and I was glad it was just said, and not really brought into the story. I also didn't like the side characters; the people the main character calls her friends are not very good friends, so I just didn't like them, and I wanted her to drop them, but she was kind of weak. I'm hoping in the next book Ella grows more of a back bone, and Liam stops running hot and cold; now that I think about it Ella needs to stop that to. I will read the next book in the series, and since it won't have the same main issue as this first book I'm hoping I'll like it better because I do have high hopes for Ella and Liam as a couple.

Control by Laura Marie Altom is the firsdt book in her Shamed series. It is a powerful, twisted tale of a marriage gone wrong, a woman on the run, and a man who meets the one person he can be himself with. That is until all her issues start shutting her down time and time again. Ella is two states away from her abusive ex-husband Blaine and is living under an assumed name. Working at the snack bar at Wal-Mart she encounters a stranger one day that starts to wake her soul up from the slow death it's been dying. Liam is stuck in a small town waiting for repairs on his transportation so he is "fitting in", wearing Wal-Mart purchased plaid shirts and jeans until the repairs are done, staying at a local motel. When he meets Ella at the Wal-Mart snack bar he is enthralled and captivated. A later run in between them at a bar is explosively hot until Ella has a melt down in the parking lot. Naturally Liam launches into protective mode and the bonding between these two very damaged people begins. I couldn't put this story down. It was captivating. To see Ella slowly stepping out of her shell, to feel Liam's frustration every time she slunk back in. We are not only dealing with one damaged person, they're both broken. They both are easily wounded and while Liam appears to be the stronger of the two, that power shifts back and forth between them. This isn't yet a happily ever after, there is a cliff-hanger ending that will leave you chomping at the bit to get your fingers on the next book. Have no fear though, it's being published and is expected out in December... Possess

4.5 stars!!! Loved this book! Laura Altom will have you turning these pages so fast, you'll finish the book before you know it! I love a book that makes my kindle wonder if it's gonna meet the wall anytime soon! LOL!! I couldn't put this down! There was always something going on with either Ella/Julie or Liam that when I should have put it down, I had to read just one more chapter. And then I was done with it and saying "What the...? That's it? I just need one more..." I kept hoping the next chapter they would work their crap out and get on with it. But two strong willed people always make for an interesting story. The story flowed at just the right pace and the characters fit even better. My least favorite was Willow. I had her type pegged in the beginning and every time there was a scene with her, I felt a scowl on my face and my hands reaching to strangle her. And at the same time I wanted to crack Liam and Ella/Julie upside the head for being so stupid with each other. In the end, I kept watching my kindle percentage getting closer and closer to the end and I really wanted things to be straightened out before 100%. Just one more chapter would have held me over until the next book. I can't wait until the next book comes out because I have to have an ending to Ella and Liam. *I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Julie is living under an assumed identity. He friends know her as Ella. She is running from a dark past. She is trying to function normally when she feels anything but normal. Liam has his own issues from his past. He not has a ton of money and buys what he wants when he wants it. Can Liam impress Ella with his money? Or will she run from not only his money but him? Can he keep her or will the secrets she is keeping rip them apart? I found myself getting angry with the characters in this story. They both go on my nerves at different times in the story. I felt just as you started to feel a little compassion for them they turned into someone I didn't even want to know..... I will pick up the next book in the series to see the continuation of this story hope that I can engage with the characters a little better in the next part of the story.

This is a book about hope and love Laura Marie Altom does a stellar job in this book of showing how two people struggle one for control, another with giving control over to another and why.  This is a book that portrays hope for a better life and hope that someday Ella would be normal and loved for who she is in spite of what happened to her in the past relationship. Ella is shown as a strong women who takes her life into her hands and fights to survive. And yes she makes some bad decisions and she cries easy but this is believable because I have a friend who has been in her shoes and I had watched her struggle for years before she found the peace and confidence that she needed.  The author also slowly brings you into Liam's story with rich descriptions of his life style then tidbits about where he's coming from and why he does what he does. She continues the buildup in a manner you finally go ahhhh... I guessed that about him. I really like the connection between Liam and Ella as well as the struggle that they go through because life is messy and sometimes you have to have the pain to get to the solution just like the book describes. This is a book about hope and love. I give it 4 STARS. I was given this book for an honest opinion from Netgalley.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Cliffhanger ending, it is going to be torture waiting to find out what happens next! Ella & Liam are tortured souls wanting to be together even as their past makes relying on someone else almost impossible. Ella runs away from her sadistic husband, meets Liam in the small town she is hiding in, to jetting off to California to be Liam's "employee"! As if Ella & Liam don't have enough drama, two of her co-workers follow her there and create havoc. Liam needs to be in control, Ella doesn't want another man controlling her. A more off than on relationship.

Ella couldn't stay too long in any town. She needed to get as far away as possible from her abusive husband. While working, Ella came across a handsome stranger who made a special request. She's not sure why, but she wanted to make sure he had what he needed. When Liam realized she didn't know who he was, he tried to wow her with his money, but she wasn't impressed. He wanted her and tried to offer her a "contract" to be his mistress. Ella wasn't going along with that so Liam left her with an ultimatum and his flight departure information. What would Ella do? Could she really believe Liam would want someone like her, especially if he found out about her secret past? I enjoyed Control and I loved the interaction between the hero and heroine. Neither wanted to give up control to the other, each having to live on their own terms. That delayed the sexual gratification which kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed Liam's moments of gentlemanly conduct which gave me that "aww" feeling. I also had feelings of wanting to kick Liam to the curb for his "guy" comments. It all worked to keep me completely wound up in the story. I couldn't wait for Ella and Liam to realize their feelings. I was floating through the remainder of the story, but as I reached the final words, I literally gasped, feeling thrown for a loop! Of course I just HAVE to read the next book, but I'm a little bent out of shape at the cliffhanger ending. Luckily the next book, Possess, is pretty much riding on the coattails of Control and will be out shortly. Hurry up and get your copy of Control so you're all ready! 4 1/2 Stars

Loved it! Thank God I'm a reviewer, cuz this book stops in a pretty harsh spot. It was 2 am when I finished this book, and the only thing that kept me from starting the next one is that I needed sleep and I had to get up early the next morning. OMG, I laughed so hard with this book, Willow was just wow... I didn't cry, but the emotional trauma of the characters was just WOW! I'm tempted to give this a four, book two was that much better, but this one was awesome too... I have LOTS of comments in my kindle from this one, it's crazy.

A Must Read Romance  - this was a very emotional and riveting story and I think book two will be even more as we'll see what caused Ella's secrecy leaving her life behind.  Liam was a fabulous hero, they made a great couple and I can't wait for the next book.  Kudo's to the author for writing a great story.

This is a very good story although it took me awhile to get into it. Ellie is running from an abusive past and in hiding and Liam is a dot com billionaire who has become very guarded about meeting new people.  As I previously stated, once I got a couple of chapters read, it got better and better. This book is continued in another story so you will be pleasantly surprised as to what happens.

WOW! I truly enjoyed this book! It is filled with dark pasts and buried secrets that keep you turning the pages as quickly as possible. When Ella and Liam meet the attraction is immediate but fear keeps Ella from giving in to it. Her need to have control of her life warns her that Liam is trouble. Liam's need for control over every aspect of his life makes him determined to get Ella into his life for as long as he wanted her. And the struggle begins. I highly recommend this book but keep in mind it is only the first part of the story. There will be another book continuing the storyline.

Enjoyable, fun romance! Ella Patton works at a local Walmart in a small town, far way from a loveless marriage and abusive husband. She lives one day at a time, though she feels half of her is dead, the half that knew how to love. Now there are only deep scars and a resolve not to let any man hurt her again.   That is until she meets the handsome, and charming, Liam Stone.   Liam Stone is used to having control over everything, especially women. His money buys him anything he wants, and he uses it to offer Ella a proposition that she cannot resist.  This starts them on a steamy, rollercoaster relationship, where falling in love is not an option.    Can Ella finally find love again in Liam? Will Liam let his defenses down long enough to realize he cannot live without Ella?  In an unexpected turn of events, they find that you can only run so fast from your past, before it catches up with you.     This was an enjoyable, entertaining, fast read romance.  You cannot help but root for Liam and Ella to get their act together and live happily ever after. But do fairy tales really exist?   Laura Marie Altom does an excellent job in keeping the reader engaged from beginning to end. ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

lla Patton is dead. At least that’s what she keeps telling herself. She’s on the run from her abusive monster of a husband and she refuses to allow anyone to control her that way again. The farther she gets away from her hometown the better. Suddenly an unexpected stranger comes into her life invading her every thought. One kiss changes everything for Ella opening up desires and feelings she never thought she could have. Then the handsome stranger with the majestic eyes makes a proposal that she should totally refuse, but instead she finds herself saying yes.  Liam Stone discovers himself stuck in a small remote Southern town. While there, he stumbles across a beautiful secretive woman he cannot get out of his head. He plans on just a casual fling that is all he ever wants. However, this girl seems different after one kiss he wants her for more than just a onetime thing. He is a dot-com billionaire used to getting what he wants. Liam decides he has to have her so he makes her an offer he is sure she will jump at. When she hesitates, he’s strangely crushed by her rejection. Suddenly the seduction he planned fails and now becomes a battle between two people who desperately want control. Can Liam learn that his money cannot always buy him happiness? Can Ella learn to trust again? Or will their insectaries and damaged pasts keep them from a love of a lifetime. my review : In the beginning, this was a cute little romance boy meets girl and they find an instant attraction. I was somewhat bored truthfully at about 15% in. Then the hero Liam makes this outrageous proposal to our heroine Ella/Julie and my mouth dropped. Ella flips through changing emotions of anger, disappointment and sadness. Which mirrored my own mixed emotions. At first, Liam seemed like your run of the mill hot guy looking for a little fun. Then we find out he’s a billionaire playboy with major commitment issues, so much so he uses a contract in all his relationships in an effort to keep control. This turn of events was surprising to say the least. However, the author kept us wondering how this would play out. Switching between Liam and Ella’s POV, the author was able to convey the deep emotions and damaged pasts of these two lost souls. They truly seem more invested in each other than they realize. I am definitely happy I kept reading this captivating romance. Ella is broken Liam wants to fix her but in a twist I felt Ella was the one fixing Liam and he didn’t even know it. The two really fight each other for control of the other’s feelings throughout the book. We meet their friends all well written characters Ella’s friend Willow is a hot mess. Nathan wants to be more to Ella but she always considers him a friend. Garrett Liam’s friend and lawyer is an arrogant jerk that I am sure has his own story to tell. Owen Liam best friend since childhood was a delight to read; when Liam goes to him for relationship advice in the middle of the night it is easy to see the bond they share. Carol is Liam’s assistant and one of his ex-flings but the relationship between the two proved to be quite endearing considering their past. It all comes together nicely for Ella and Liam finally, in the last few chapters then we are thrown a cliffhanger that I was not expecting. This book is the first part of Ella and Liam’s journey. Part 2 is Possess of which I have anxiously begun reading. The third book I believe will be about Carol and Garrett; these two background characters really intrigued me. I found myself wondering what made both of these characters tick. Overall, I enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it adding Laura Marie Altom to my list of authors to love. Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
