About the Author

Philip T. Stevens is a retired Naval Architect Technician from Stratton's town in the western mountains of Maine. Philip struggled with choices in picking the correct path to an education and a better way of life. Philip’s mother provided a firm foundation and example for him. He graduated after a couple of setbacks from High School, went into the Marine Corps, spent time growing up in the Vietnam War, returned home, and found the same old routine until he met a wonderful wife, who inspired Philip to go technical college. This opened doors to friendships and many options to develop a unique way of life for the Stevens family.
These friendships and education gave the Stevens family new beginnings in looking to the future, serving as a Naval Architect Technician with the Submarine Engineering Department at Naval Base Portsmouth N.H. and Naval Engineering Technical Branch U.S. Coast Guard for 30 years. Also, while completing his master’s degree, Philip volunteered in a military reserve program for 17 years. Finally, he used that educational experience to teach college courses at North Georgia Technical college from 2010 to 2014.
Philip has a conversation with his grandchildren through this reading to further explain his life. Philip’s story starts off around a campfire with his grandchildren, asking questions about family history and memories of years gone by. Philip leaves this account to future family members to better understand their ancestors. He also feels this could provide a model for others to follow in preserving their family history for years to come.
