Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
January 2000

From the doctor who brought you the New York Times bestseller Eat Right 4 Your Type, the groundbreaking book on the connection between blood type and diet, comes the long-awaited follow-up, Cook Right 4 Your Type: The Practical Kitchen Companion to Eat Right 4 Your Type.

Eat Right 4 Your Type convinced more than half a million readers that eating right for one's blood type can help one live a longer, healthier life. With the help of a team of chefs, Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo now presents a book chock-full of mouthwatering and easy-to-prepare meals specifically designed for each of the four blood types.

Whether you're a meat eater or vegetarian, Cook Right 4 Your Type is an essential source for living with a sensible diet individualized for you, allowing you to eat foods that seem like major indulgences. With such delicious recipes as lamb stew, braised vegetables, and lemon squares, you'll barely notice that you've started a regimen designed to optimize your health, your weight, and your total well-being.

The food plan is outlined below.

If your blood type is O: Stick to a high-protein (red meat) and low-carbohydrate diet. This is the oldest and most common blood type, dating back to the Cro-Magnons. Type O individuals have a strong immune and digestive system heavily adapted to the consumption of meats, which was the primary food source for the first anatomically modern humans.

If your blood type is A: You should be a vegetarian (high carbohydrate, low fat). Around 25,000 to 15,000B.C.,type A differentiated its immune system from type O to fight off infections and bacteria. People with this blood type have digestive systems adapted to a diet that was able to meet the body's needs for proteins derived primarily from fish, plants, and grains.

If your blood type is B: You can enjoy most dairy products, as well as a balance of meat, fish, grains, vegetables, and fruit. This type began appearing between 15,000 and 10,000 B.C., as tribes began moving out of traditional community settings and exploring the landscape. They survived on the meat and dairy of cattle, goats, and sheep, and thus have the most varied diet, responding well to most meats as well as fruits, vegetables, and grains.

If your blood type is AB: Your diet should be mostly vegetarian, with modest supplements of meat and dairy. This type appeared approximately 10 to 15 centuries ago, although in response to what stimulus is still unclear. It combines most of the strengths and weaknesses of types A and B.

All blood types can have foods from the different groups, but there are specific foods within each group that are better suited to the body's needs, and Dr. D'Adamo has discovered the optimal combination. The secret to longevity and feeling well is to adapt our dietary habits to most effectively balance the chemical reaction that occurs between our individual blood types and the foods we consume.

COOK RIGHT 4 YOUR TYPE includes 200 delicious recipes. Dr. D'Adamo then combines these recipes into 30-day menu plans for each blood type to design a lifestyle blueprint that will lead to weight loss, increased energy, stress relief, and the ability to ward off disease.

    makes perfect sense

I bought this book 7 years ago and loved it!!! lost weight and looked better then I ever have before. The last 5 years I went through a lot of changes this book kinda got lost in the shuffle and I lost the blood type way of life. I recently moved to Denver the difference in air here made my stomach go crazy! I was sick of hurting and went back to this book. It was time to make a change. It has been 2 weeks I have lost 6 lbs and feel so much better. I don't hurt anymore! Get this book it makes sense and keep an open mind! If your sick of hurting and are ready to make a change try this way of life.

Recipes to compliment your blood type

This book is an excellent companion to the original "Easting Right 4 Your Type" by the same author. The book contains a synopsis of each blood type, an explaination of why certain types of food compliment specific blood types and, most importantly, wonderful recipes for each type. I look forward to trying the rest of these recipes and learning how to cook for a household of type B and type 0; the book is written from a positive position that this is possible and that to be less than perfect is ok.

What a wonderful book! I've had many stomach problems for many years and did not realize how much pain I was really in until following the diet in this book...as long as I follow the plan for my blood type I'm PAIN-FREE and feel wonderful!! This really works and I'd encourage anyone to give it a try.

    A Real Eye-Opener of a Book

I never realized the compatibility between blood types and foods and how it affects our bodies. This book lists foods that are highly beneficial, neutral and ones to avoid for specific blood types. Now maybe I can lose some weight and get healthier.
