Overview

Did you know the average dinner from a chain restaurant costs nearly $35 a person and contains more than 1,200 calories? That’s hard on your wallet and your waistline, and few people understand this better than the authors of Eat This, Not That! After years of helping consumers navigate America’s daunting culinary landscape – and literally thousands of weight-loss success stories – Dave and Matt have finally turned their nutritional savvy to the place with the greatest impact – your kitchen. The hundreds of recipes contained inside this book will help you and your loved ones eliminate body fat, get in shape, and lead fitter, happier lives.

But make no mistake – this is no rice-and-tofu cookbook. The genius of Cook This, Not That! is that it teaches you how to save hundreds – sometimes thousands – of calories by recreating America’s most popular restaurant dishes, including Outback Steakhouse’s Roasted Filet with Port Wine Sauce, Uno Chicago Grill’s Individual Deep Dish Pizza, and Chili’s Fire Grilled Chicken Fajita. Alongside this you’ll find other priceless advice, such as:

· The 37 Ways to Cook a Chicken Breast, A Dozen 10-Minute Pasta Sauces, The Ultimate Sandwich Matrix, and other on-the-go cooking tips.

· Scorecards that let you easily compare the nutritional quality of the carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that go into building every meal you eat.

· The truth about how seemingly healthy foods such as wheat bread, salmon, and low-fat snacks are secretly sabotaging your health.

    Love the Recipes

I have other ABS Diet books so I knew the premise. I wanted to substitute more fattening meals with healthy substitutes and these recipes are perfect. They introduce new flavors combinations and are delicious. I have served the food to guests and they love them and cannot believe they are lower in fat. I highly recommend this book for expanding your Abs Diet recipes. I think you will love them too!

    Cook this not that!

I have a couple of the Eat this Not That books by this author (the original and the one for kids), but was skeptical about a cookbook. I figured I would have to clear out my pantry and buy all new stuff, or the recipes would be too complicated, or the end results would taste like cardboard! I was wrong on all accounts! I try to make something from this book 2-3 per week. I figure my family would save calories, as well as fat and salt consumption, and that would be better than doing nothing at all! My kids on occassion could be labeled as picky eaters and they have loved everything I've made from this book. I enjoy this book so much I have recommended it to pretty much everyone I know and have given a couple as gifts!!! I hope they are planning another cookbook in the future!! If they are I will be first in line to get it!!!

    Latest in an Awesome Series!

Cook This, Not That is the latest book about healthy eating from Zinczenko & Goulding. Eat This, Not That was hugely popular, and this one is proving to be as well. What the authors do so right is include ingredients and foods that real people actually want to eat...no nonfat whipped cream or tofu in sight. The colorful pictures and easy to follow directions make this a no-brainer. Any ordinary cook can whip up something far healthier than a chain restaurant in less time than it takes to drive there or have it delivered.

I would never recommend a cookbook that I wouldn't try, so I have tried many recipes from Cook This, Not That. The ones that I have cooked have been delicious, from appetizers to desserts. Olive Garden's Fettucine Alfredo (A.K.A. Heart Attack on a Plate) rings in at 1,220 calories. The same taste can be gained from using a few tablespoons of butter, milk, flour, and good Parmesan for 540 calories. The Cheesecake Factory's Macaroni & Cheese? 1,482 calories PER SERVING. Or you can cook it at home for 480.

No wonder we live in such an unhealthy world today with portions and ingredients that are served in these restaurants. Is there any appetizer that is not cooked in a deep fryer? Would you rather have Chili's Fire Grilled Chicken Fajita Quesadilla for 1,480 calories (FOR AN APPETIZER???) or make them at home in a cast-iron skillet for 310? It takes just as much effort.

MY RATING FOR ANY BOOK IN THIS SERIES - 5/5

    I Also Recommend:

If you love fast food, this book is for you

I bought few health books to improve my health and lose some weight. This book falls short from being helpful. It is full of pictures on what to eat and what to skip. if you don't care about your health and still want to east fast food and choose bacon burger instead of fried fish filet, this book is for you. I will pass and I'm returning it.

    Great for Your Resolution

I made a resolution this year to cook more at home. After reading this book, I'm going to try to cook almost every day. This is NOT the Eat This, Not That book that compares different fast food places. Instead, this book has recipes for foods you might order in a restaurant. It also includes the alarming, unhealthful details about the restaurant food along side the more healthy details of the recipes. I think this is a great book for people like me who like restaurant food but want to make it in a more healthful, inexpensive way.

    Great info. AND recipes--Yippeee

I liked the supermarket version of this book, but this one ROCKS! I was only mildly interested when I bought it. Then, I showed it to a friend of mine and he was hooked. He went and bought the book, and to date has made more recipes than me! The buffalo wing recipe was great on chicken breast to make sandwiches and salad w/blue cheese!

Down 7lbs in 3 weeks no exercise.. Yep all this from a food junkie!

I can't believe how easy the recipes are most of them take less than an hour prep to finish. If you plan your meals before you shop, & you already have the stuff on hand most run about 30 minutes. I get more use out of my rotisserie, my George Foreman & my Food Processor than I ever did. I used to think I was ordering healthy at the restaurants but looking through this series I noticed I was always choosing the worst of the worsts. I have been cooking for my parents, my family & friends from this book & receiving rave reviews!! Lower calories..Less sodium, More Protein & Fiber.. I am now more regular than I have ever been in my life TMI I'm sure, but I always felt bloated & never satisfied, now when I eat I stay fuller longer.. also Kashi high in protein snacks.. the Bomb! I enjoy cooking & baking & unlike other diets now I have so much Freedom, I am loving this, It's not a diet, Thank you CTNT!

Makes you think twice before ordering that restaurant meal

I love the receipes in this book that provide alternatives to those high calorie, fatty restuarant meals that we all love. Also saves money as cooking at home is less expensive and this book has recipes that are simple enough for almost anyone to try.

Mc Donald's or Burger King, Krispy Creme or Dunkin Donuts 4 great health

If you think this the right advice to improve your health , then go ahead and buy this book. I thought I was going to learn something. What I learnt that I was a moron and should have checked it out first before exiting the store.
