According to Wally Amos, the secret to eternal joy can be found in the lowly cookie. “How many times in our lives have we heard the phrase, ‘Well, that’s the way the cookie crumbles,’ ” he demands. “It’s supposed to make us feel better...[but] when a cookie breaks apart, you don’t lose the cookie, you get lots of little cookies!” Amos refuses to take disappointment with a doleful shrug; instead, he finds the sweetness of life and encourages us to do the same. In this collection of inspirational essays, Amos offers us his homegrown recipes for life contentment.
For example, Amos promises that we can all find comforting, long-lasting relationships if we just use the proper ingredients. “Gently mix together Equal Quantities of Unconditional Love, Acceptance, Non-Judgment, Positive Loving Attitude, Faith, Appreciation, Gentleness, Empathy, and Friendship,” he instructs. “[And] just before serving, garnish with Spirituality to remind all who partake that we are spiritual beings having human experiences, not the other way around.” Amos goes on to formulate recipes for success in all areas of life: work, family, friendship and more. “And remember,” he adds, “whatever happens with cookies, it’s always for the best.”
Amos, a motivational speaker who has helped thousands find their way to happier lives, insists that finding satisfaction in life is as easy as whipping up a batch of snickerdoodles. “We all have it in us to be brilliant cooks in our own life-kitchens,” he promises. “It seems so obvious, but for some reason, people need to be reminded.... Consider me your friendly reminder!” (Jesse Gale)
