Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverly Melasi
More and more children today are becoming overweight and obese. This is partly because fast foods have come along to provide the means to make them fat. Life moves faster, and people come and go more quickly than they once did, with less time to spare. There is less time to prepare and cook nutritious meals. Instead they pick up something quick and cheap: fast food. When super sizing was born, it opened the doors to even more calories per meal. Calories are the fuel a body needs to be active. Everyone needs a certain amount of calories a day to be healthy, but processed foods have a lot more than others. Eating a variety of healthy foods is the best way to get all the vitamins and minerals needed daily, as well as the right balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and calories. Almost all foods eaten in fast food establishments are processed. Pay attention to nutritional values for common fast foods. The book is colorful, appealing and fun to read. It contains a Calorie at Work chart to help children see how many calories can be burned undertaking different activities, and a fast food chart showing calories, fat, and nutritional values.
