Overview

"Cookin'" is the word for this group of tunes, as the regal ruler of zydeco throws reggae and Caribbean rhythms into a stew already well seasoned with Cajun, creole, African, and blues flavors. Trading lead vocals with her son Myrick and delivering some wild accordion work, Queen pays homage to Louisiana-music popular heroes Chuck Berry and Doug Kershaw in "Gator Man" and offers an uptempo explanation of her favorite style in "Zydeco." She leads her hot band down a more reflective path on a couple of ballads, then throws in some dance tunes in English and French to liven things up. She turns autobiographical in "C'est Moi" and adds that island spice on "Dancing on the Bayou," then leads a trip through the Cajun backwoods on "I-10 Express." Queen Ida and her cohorts offer a distinctly flavored feast of entire the Gulf Coast array of music. This is one very moveable feast.
