This has to be my favorite cookbook because it explains the proper technique for cooking nutritious food that tastes good. There are many, many photographs which demonstrate technique and the explanations are easy to follow. This cookbook also has resources on the various food products that teaches low fat/low cholesterol food options so that you can make good food choices. Plus it covers a wide variety of foods--everything from seafood to vegetables to dairy products to pastas. I would definitely recommend this cookbook.

My daughter bought this for friends who are really into food and they loved it. She loved it too, so I had to find a copy for her for Christmas! It isn't just a book of recipes -- It contains detailed instructions for how to use and prepare all kinds of foods, with beautiful photos. There is an error in the Angel Food Cake Recipe -- it reads 2 egg whites instead of 12. I don't know if it has been reprinted without the error.

I've been collecting recipes from on line cooking web sites, friends, family, and new cookbooks because I want to learn how to cook better, more healthy meals for my husband and I. I am trying to get fit and work on staying healthy by eating better and getting more excercise so that as I move into retirement years, I'll still be able to enjoy the active lifestyle I was used to with my kids. I have a son who is a chef (one of the Top 10 New Chefs according to Food and Wine magazine), and I want to understand better what he's doing with food so I can show more interest and intelligence when he's talking to us about his passion. This book provides lots of information about what you need to know about the nutritional value of foods, what you can do with them, how to prepare them using different methods of cooking, and how to store them to keep them fresh. It also has some recipes, but it's not really a cookbook in the sense that most are filled with recipes. I'm learning a lot and have found it not only interesting to read and refer to, but a great educational tool and inspiration to want to learn even more. Next up - some real cooking classes.

It provides great education on how to cook, preparing foods, types of spices. I like the nutrional value information for the recipes and pictures provided.

I've never been officially taught to cook. I've made mac and cheese per specifications on the box, however I've never really cooked anything beyond three basic steps. So, I've resorted mostly to frozen dinners and eating out. One day, I perused the bookstore in search of a good cookbook. Most cookbooks are just compilations of recipes. "Way to Cook" however is not a recipe book. It's a how-to, and a magnificent how-to book it is. Filled cover to cover in beautiful color photographs, illustrating how-to's along with very valuable how-NOT-to's. It shows what to do, and what happens when you're doing it wrong. It's well organized, covering all the basics. It's not a diet cookbook; it's, well, a cooking light book. Cooking everyday recipes and trimming just enough fat without losing flavor. It's perfect for starter cooks, perhaps college students on their own for the first time. Even those who know how to cook, it's a great refresher of the basics. There are some critics who contest it has too few recipes, but I say again, it's a book of basics. Just enough recipes to get you going.
