Children's Literature - Lisette Baez
LEGO pieces never lose their fun appeal for those young or old. It is amazing what can be built with these tiny, colorful pieces. There is so much more to them than just creating a skyscraper. This is the perfect book for those who dream of being able to create more exciting things. Step by step directions guide readers through the process of building new creations while only using 35 pieces. Readers are challenged to create their own projects as well. From robots to vehicles to goofy faces, LEGOS allow the creation of any world and any item to be a part of it. Build a farm with “Nutty Animals” and “Bugs and Critters” or a “Spacecraft” with “Aliens,” all categories found within the colorful pages. The illustrated steps guide the building process and each final creation is neatly labeled to use as a reference. The ideas are endless. Builders will instantly be hooked and should enjoy other books by the author for further inspiration, including Cool Castles or Cool City, to name a few. Reviewer: Lisette Baez; Ages 4 to 8.

Gr 2–5—Kenney, a certified LEGO® professional, demonstrates 87 different LEGO® projects that kids can build. From robots and aliens to buildings and animals, all are cleverly made with the same 35 pieces. The creations are photographed on white backgrounds with simple black-line sketches to add interest and clarity. While the vivid close-up photographs make it easy to see each project, it is difficult to judge scale. It is not clear if the pieces are included in typical LEGO® sets. Instead, the author directs readers to his website to purchase pieces. Despite these minor drawbacks, this offering will inspire LEGO® enthusiasts with innovative ideas and step-by-step instructions to help get them started.—Laura Stanfield, Campbell County Public Library, Ft. The book has some great ideas. The problem is finding the pieces to make the cool creations. We will have to go back to the Lego store to find the pieces but they will be in different colors most probably according to Lego store sales person. My 7 year old bought this book at his school book fair and it is definitely more doable than the Lego idea book. Still recommend buying it.
