Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Remy Dou
Do you need a table to hold up your popcorn on movie night? All you need is newspaper, tape, and paint! Or want to make S'mores on a sunny day without a fire? Grab an empty pizza box, some aluminum foil, and follow the simple steps found in this book. The ten projects included are designed to inspire young builders, inventors, and engineers. Readers will enjoy following along with the photographs of diverse girls demonstrating various steps in each project. The zany looking layouts and fun activities have all been designed to motivate young women to learn about and develop an interest in engineering. Although some projects are better categorized as experiments, as opposed to inventions, learning will always be taking place. While the activities generally require inexpensive materials, some will need parts that may not be lying around the house, such as PVC pipe, electric buzzers, and darts. The "Read More" section could help educators supplement projects with leading questions that motivate students to pursue further investigation. A glossary and index are included. Readers of this book may also be interested in others in the "Girls Science Club" series, published by Capstone Press. Reviewer: Remy Dou
