Coping with a Bigoted Parent

Coping with a Bigoted Parent

by Maryann Miller

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 9-12-- Miller addresses the nature of bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination and discusses how teens can deal with these traits in themselves and in others, including their parents. Unfortunately, her consistent use of local, generic, and less than compelling incidents fails to hook readers and results in a drab book. The text is occasionally confusing, exceedingly dry, and lacks autheniticity. Better organized and more dramatic are Kathlyn Gay's Bigotry (Enslow, 1989) and Elaine Pascoe's Racial Prejudice (Watts, 1985), which inform and inspire students and present practical information for teachers on this most pressing and universal problem. --Susan F.
