Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 5-8-Both of these slim titles have a format and writing style similar to a teen magazine: colorful pages and photos, a variety of fonts per page, to-the-point texts, bulleted lists of dos and don'ts, and highlighted quotes throughout. The photographs of contemporary teenagers with piercings and bare midriffs are realistic, the problems presented are honest, and the advice is solid, coming from three practioners in the field of social work. Each chapter in each book contains case studies, the experts' advice, and the "Outcomes." Families offers a guide to communicating with parents. Friends discusses making and keeping friends and how to walk away from a negative relationship. However, the best feature in these titles is the list of eight phone and hotline numbers for young people to call when they need to talk with a trained professional or counselor.-Pamela K.
