Overview

Everyone thinks their cats are special—but Owen and Hercules have powers that go far beyond an adorable look or an irresistible purr. Along with their owner, librarian Kathleen Paulson, they have an uncanny instinct for solving crimes...

It's been raining cats and dogs in Mayville Heights. The small town's been deluged, and now the local artists' co-op is on the verge of flooding. Kathleen has been up all night helping her friends move their creations to the safety of the upstairs studio.

The artwork survives, but when controversial mask maker Jaeger Merrill is found drowned in the co-op basement, Kathleen questions whether the death was accidental. After she discovers the artist was using an assumed name, she realizes she can't actually assume anything about him. With the help of handsome detective Marcus Gordon—and her cats' extraordinary powers of detection—it's up to Kathleen to unmask a killer.

This is a "light-hearted" murder mystery series. With an independent sleuth as our heroine. Her two cats, while unique in their own right, are great sleuths as well. It seems they do aide their human in solving the crimes in this small town. I love the relationships that are developed between the different women in the town, of varying ages. And I love our heroine's resilience to over come her own heart ache. This will be the fourth in the series and I can't wait to read it!

The whole series is delightful. My only criticism is that she has so many continuing characters, she really should have a list of characters at the front of the book as several authors do. Particularly since several women's names start with the letter R, it gets hard to keep track of them all, at least for a while. I am anxiously waiting for the next one.

In Kelly’s paranormal cozy mystery novel, the rain in Mayville Heights has reached flooding proportions. The local artist’s co-op is close to flooding and Kathleen has been helping her friends move their artistic creations to the upper levels of the building. The artwork survives but a controversial mask-maker, Jaeger Merrill, doesn’t. He is found drowned in the basement of the co-op and questions linger as to if it was accidental or not. Teaming with detective Marcus Gordon and her extraordinary cats, Kathleen sets out to find the killer. I’ve quickly become a fan of this fun mystery series. This is just one more awesome installment to the A Magical Cats Mystery series and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

This is a great series, i am a cat lover myself and found these books to be quite entertaining!! Hercules and Owen stole my heart with the first book but as they progressed in the series, i fell more in love with them :) however this whole Kathleen and Marcus back and forth thing is getting old, i wish they would hurry up and get together already, hopefully there will be more in this series, i will be keeping my eye out for 2 mischevious furr balls :)

Welcome back to Mayville Heights! I hope you brought your umbrella, boots and a rain slicker. It's been "raining cats and dogs" for days. There is flooding all over town. The local artists' co-op has a basement full of water and our favorite librarian Kathleen is helping her friends move their work to higher ground in case the water continues to rise. All the artwork is saved but one artist isn't as lucky. Mask maker Jaeger Merrill is found drowned in the basement. The death doesn't look accidental to Kathleen. Detective Marcus Gordon is on the case and Kathleen along with her fantastic felines just can't help themselves from assisting him in any way they can. Owen and Hercules use their magic to help "unmask" the killer. Dollycas's Thoughts These magical felines continue to steal the show! Hercules and Owen are truly special characters. Kathleen handles their powers much better than I would. All the characters are continuing to evolve. Heck the good detective may even get a library card in the next installment. Kathleen has definitely made herself at home in Mayville Heights. She has taken falling for a guy to a new level and finds something startling from Roma's past. And when Kathleen and Maggie get together there is never a dull moment. (Watch out for flying rodents!) I especially enjoyed this story because of the history featured that creates a mystery inside of a mystery. The town is getting ready to celebrate the library’s centennial with a very special showcase of the groups that have met at the library over the years. One group was doing more than most people knew and some journals from Rebecca's mother are discovered that hold several secrets. Well written, carefully plotted, a little romance and a bunch of humor. A purrfect cozy mystery!

I like this series. Catherine is a smart woman, has substance to her character, and not an entirely crazy cat lady. I love the snarky attitude she has with the cats and with people.

Imagine a cat who seems to have magical powers. Now add another cat who also has magical powers and you have a thoroughly enjoyable, giggle out loud story. This is the 3rd book in Sofie Kelly's Magical Cats Mystery and I, for 1 am really looking forward to more. Sofie writes about everyday, normal people, people who may also be a bit eccentric. For a fun, quick read pick up 1 or all 3 of the books in this series.  FTC Full Disclosure - A copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.

Sophie Kelly writes fluently and remarkably well. This 3rd installment in her magical cats series involves a cleverly devised plot while allowing character relationships to progress. For me, the favorite aspect of these books is Kathleen's progressive trust in her cats Hercules and Owen. She finally simply accepts het "conversations" with them as part of her daily life. There is so much to like in these whimsical books that perhaps solving the murder, while the goal, is really an excuse to spend time with the characters who inhabit this world. As always, the mystery itself is carefully plotted out so guessing is okay, but you are probably wrong.

Two murders for Kathleen and her cats. One murder occurred in 1963. Kathleen stumbles on the bones. Great character development. The story moves along.
