Cordially Invited is one book in a series that introduces young people to several different career fields. Although Cordially Invited is a slim volume of 48 pages, Thompson has written a book packed with information on what is required in becoming an event planner. Contents include types of events, industries that use event planners, how to get started, organizing the details and much more. The book's lay-out of text, photographs, and illustrations is visually stimulating. Text is broken up with many illustrations on each page. It is a feast for the eyes, although so much information may overwhelm some readers. For example, one chapter describes how to put together a Wishing Tree Foundation children's party. First there is the planning stage and steps on how to build a team, deciding on a theme and remembering the five Ws. Questions follow such as What is the Event? Why are you doing it? Who will be involved? Where will it be held? When will it take place? Then there is the guest list to consider along with a guest profile. The two pages on Types of Events have very little text, but five photographs on each page illustrate the types of events. Back material consists of further reading, websites and a glossary of terms.
