Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Poor Corduroy, he has been sitting on the store shelf for a long time. A young girl named Lisa falls in love with Corduroy despite his missing button and shopworn look. It is a heartwarming story of the small stuffed bear's desire for a home and friends and his obtaining perfect fulfillment in the devotion of Lisa. Caldecott award winning illustrator Freeman created a book that has lasted for generations.

What a great book for all ages. I have read Corduroy since I was young and continued to read it with my students. I bought this for my great neice and Mom remembered when I bought it for her. I have bought this one and A Pocket for Corduroy but do not know about the rest of the series! A book for all children to own.

This story about a dear, sweet little bear who wants, more than anything, for a friend to come and love him will win your and your childrens' hearts. The innocent way this cute bear explores his world is matched by the adorable drawings. A favorite of younger children, this story speaks to the way in which children see their stuffed animals, as friends. Time-tested, this book belongs on every child's bookshelf. It is an endearing classic that your children will remember and buy for their children.

This was my son's favorite book when he was young. He is now the proud dad of my beautiful granddaughter. To continue the "Corduroy Legacy," I gave my granddaughter this book for Christmas. My son was excited to see it and remembered it immediately.

My best friend, Tom, has 2 pairs of corderouy pants. And immediately, I gave him the nickname 'Corderouy' and it stuck. This story is perfect for us. I met him and knew right away that I was going to be friends with him. I was ready to accept him and all 'his missing buttons.' And we've been best friends ever since.

I read this story over and over again to my own daughters when they were little. Now my daughter uses it in her preschool class. My friend is a literacy coach and also runs a home preschool. She was with me in Barnes and Noble and asked me for a recommendation for her little charges. We both saw the toy and the book and thought it would be an excellent addition to her library and toy collection. So Corduroy has found another home and will be enjoyed by many more lucky little ones.

I actually purchased the book for the Adoptive and Foster Child Coalition. We do already own a copy. Both of my girls enjoyed the story very much and it remains a classic in our home.

That was a joke. Corduroy...groovy...get it? This is a sweet little story that tells kids you don't have to be perfect to be loved. I recommend the Scholastic DVD with the Corduroy story. It's a very old video and very charming.

FINALLY! ... The original, with all its heartfelt charm in Board Book format. Twenty-eight years ago, at the tender age of two, tears welled in my daughter's eyes as the final page revealed those poignant words 'I always wanted a friend'. And, as the years have passed, if anyone needed a friend she remained true to those nascent emotions of so long ago. Throughout her childhood she made me promise never to let 'her' Corduroy book come to any harm ... yes, it still brings tears to her eyes.

A stuffed bear, Corduroy, sat in a store until one day when a girl, Lisa, takes him and his wish comes true - he gets a home of his own. A wonderful tale that tells kids how important home and friends are.

I read this to my eldest daughter 26 years ago and she loves it to this day and then to my youngest daughter five years later. This story stands the 'test of time'. I am buying this book for my nieces 2nd birthday this month. Thank you Don Freeman!
